In an effort to strengthen the\u00a0 role of women in conflict prevention,
\npeace making and peace building, UN WOMEN would\u00a0 train 32 rural women in
\nfour local government areas of\u00a0 Gombe State.<\/p>\n
The UN women Gender Technical Adviser, Women Peace\u00a0 and Security,\u00a0 Gombe
\nState office, Rhoda Zira Dia, disclosed this while speaking during the
\ntwo-day\u00a0 planning and\u00a0 orientation\u00a0 for community based women mentors at
\nMaidugu Hotel in Gombe yesterday.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Dia said that the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and
\nEmpowerment of Women (UN women ) is to implement an EU-funded programme on
\npromoting women engagement in peace and security in selected local
\ngovernment areas in Gombe, Bauchi and Plateau States.<\/p>\n
She added that “the programme is to strengthen\u00a0 women’s leadership,
\nadvance gender equality and improve protecting women, children in conflict
\nsettings”.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Dia said that “Gombe State as one of the states for implementing
\nwomen peace Security programme is known for security threat and have had
\nits own share of the current insurgency happening in northern Nigeria”.<\/p>\n
She said that four lead mentors were identified and have attended a
\nplanning meeting with the women peace security team in Abuja and community
\nlevel 32 women mentors also have selected from four local government areas
\nto carry out the implementation of the programme in the state that the
\nfour local government areas are Balanga, Kaltungo, Kwami and Yamaltu\/Deba.<\/p>\n
Also speaking one up the key lead mentors, Mrs. Hannatu Ibrahim, said that
\nthe programme is key to promotion of love, tolerance and peace.<\/p>\n
She added that ” without peace we will not be able to carry out any
\nactivity and therefore our community based mentors I believe will benefit
\nfrom this workshop by listening attentively to what they will be taught so
\nthat at the end of it, we go back to our communities and equipped enough
\nto mentors and work with our women, girls and men in peace and security
