Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Wednesday in Abuja condemned the<\/p>\n
activities of Niger Delta Avengers, saying Nigerian State should not
\nsubmit to blackmail from any quarters. The governor stated this while
\nfielding questions from State House correspondents after a closed door
\nmeeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n
According to him, the country deserves respect from all, adding that the
\npolitical elite should help in promoting and strengthening the bridge of
\nunity in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think the state should submit to blackmail, for me I think the
\nstate‎ should be respected.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me I believe in Nigeria, I believe no part can do without the other,
\nI believe our unity is not negotiable, I believe the responsibility of the
\npolitical elite is to strengthen the bridge of unity, to discourage
\npreaching hatred; discourage amplifying weak points rather work to
\nstrengthen those points.<\/p>\n
\u201cI salute our armed forces for what they are doing and the confidence they
\nhave brought back to our security,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Oshiomhole further stated that \u201cPresident Buhari deserves the support of
\neveryone and there is no part of Nigeria that can be better off without
\nthe other part\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cThe sooner we accept this reality the better it is for all of
\nus. The days of ethnic champions and imaginary divides will not help
\nanyone.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
The governor maintained that the president had shown leadership and
\ndetermination to keep the country going and \u201cfor once, we are enjoying
\nrespect ‎in world capitals, in different continents\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
Oshiomhole, therefore, enjoined all Nigerians, particularly the people of
\nthe South-South region, to support and cooperate with the Buhari-led
\nadministration in his efforts to transform the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t need to be security experts to accept the universal truth that
\nwherever there is insecurity there will be no investment‎ because no
\ninvestor will go to where is unsafe.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd where there is no investment poverty will be endemic because there
\nwill be no job for our people.
\n\u201cI appeal to all of us in the South South, we need to wake up; it is for
\nour own self interest that we make the region the most investor friendly.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe assets being destroyed is not just national assets, it is our own
\nassets. It is what makes the South South the hub of the Nigerian economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, if somebody for whatever reason decides to destroy pipelines and
\nthereby compounding the problem of pollution, ‎the cost of cleaning
\nup that area, making it attractive either for fishing, farming or other
\nbusiness, is a huge cost,\u2019\u2019 he added. The governor commended Buhari for
\nhis commitment to clean up Ogoni land and other polluted areas in the
\nNiger Delta.<\/p>\n
He urged the people of the region to work together and encourage the
