The Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF) has given reasons why it
\nshelved the planned missile strike in Abuja and other designated targets.
\nThe group said President Mohammadu Buhari’s willingness to dialogue with
\nthe militants and several appeals by the United States and other concerned
\ninternational interest groups informed its decision to halt the launch of
\nsix missile strikes that would have taken place simultaneously.
\nA statement issued Friday by the group said the willingness of the Buhari
\ngovernment to dialogue with the group and several appeals by the
\ninternational community was reason for the change of plans.
\nIt, therefore, demanded the release of the detained\u00a0 leader of the
\nIndigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and the former National
\nSecurity Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, as some of the conditions for a ceasefire
\nin the bombing campaign of pipelines and other oil and gas installation in
\nthe Niger Delta.
\nThe group also demanded the immediate clean up of oil spill areas in the
\nNiger Delta region, payment of compensation to all affected communities
\nand the defreezing of the bank accounts of Ex-militant leader, Government
\nEkpemupolo aka Tompolo.
\nJNDLF warned its representatives including governors of the region against
\nbetrayal in the negotiation process as the consequences would be dire and
\nadded that there would be no further warning before commencement of
\nmissile strikes, should\u00a0 President Buhari, whom it described as the
\n“pharaoh of Nigeria”, renege on\u00a0 any of the demands.<\/p>\n

Why We Ceasefire on Our Earlier Missiles Launch<\/p>\n

There is no gainsaying that we made our earlier promise to launch 6
\nMissiles simultaneously against some targeted areas. But this was
\nwaved side as a result of Federal Government and some international
\nnations through email to us to open talks with Buhari.
\nWe saw some genuine aspiration on the part of Pharaoh of Nigeria
\n(Buhari) who made several contacts to us to see reasons with them in
\nterms of under-development of the region. And since he (Buhari) had
\nset the ball rolling for a clear negotiation with us, there is no
\nproblem without solution hence we ceasefire to negotiate with the
\ngovernment if it is a true reflection of what they have in mind to
\ndevelopment the Niger Delta region.
\nWe are not ready to negotiate with the federal government in terms of
\nmonetary benefit to us but how genuinely the government can develop
\nthe region is at the centre of our discussion, anything less than that
\nwe will continue our struggle without further warning to the federal
\ngovernment.
\nOur demands include:
\n1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Immediate release of the former National Security Adviser (NSA),
\nCol. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) and Dr. Nnamdi Kanu, whose releases was
\npronounced by the court severally and their continue detention is
\nunconstitutional and against the tenet of our nascent democracy in the
\ncountry.
\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Direct EFCC to defreeze the bank accounts of ex-militant leader,
\nGovernment Ekpemupolo, (a.k.a. Tompolo)
\n3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The only Nigerian Maritime University sited in the most appropriate
\nand befitting place \u2013 Okerenkoko in Delta State, must start the
\n2015\/2016 academic session immediately.
\n4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The immediate implementation of the report of the 2014 National
\nConference report, failure of which Nigeria will forcefully break-up.
\n5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oil-polluted lands in the Niger Delta must be cleaned up, while
\ncompensation should be paid to all oil-producing communities, e.g.
\nChevron fire outbreak of gas explosion in Koluama, Bayelsa state and
\nBonga Oil Spill in 2011.
\n6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Removal of Brigadier General Paul Boroh (rtd.) as an Amnesty
\nCoordinator who is na\u00efve about the programmes and policies and does
\nnot know us to the grassroot. Hence he (Boroh) should be re-placing
\nwith Dr. Felix Tuodolo who has been in the struggle of non-violence
\nsince 1980 and the designer of the Amnesty programme, as this will
\nstall further vandalization of pipelines in the region.
\n7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Why all these attacks on oil and gas pipelines in the region is
\nthat the Pharaoh of Nigeria (Buhari) made a childish statement that,
\nhe will develop those areas that gave him 95% votes during his
\npresidential election last year. We the Niger Delta people only gave
\nhim 5% hence we vowed that our oil money will not be use for the
\ndevelopment of any other region. The President should change his mind
\nset towards the region, if not this will continue.
\nWe further thanked the American government and other international
\nnations through several email, in prevailing on us not to use Missiles
\nbut to tow the part of coming into a round table discussion with the
\nfederal government, we shall continue to engage in dialogue if our
\ndemands are met. Our representatives for the dialogue especially the
\nGovernors and others will not betray our demands with the federal
\ngovernment. Any betrayal on their own part shall be viewed as betrayal
\nof the entire region and we shall go after them immediately as they
\nknows our mode of operation in which they will not escape from us. We
\nalso thank our foreign partners who have gone back with their
\nchartered submarine vessel if these demands are not met as we have
\nceasefire now, there will be NO further ultimatum to the Nigerian
\ngovernment.
