The immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ),
\nAbuja Chapter, Chuks Ehirim, is dead. Ehirim died at the Garki Hospital
\nafter a brief illness.<\/p>\n
Ehirim, who died on a day he was due to celebrate his 50th birthday is
\nsurvived by a wife and five young\u00a0 children.<\/p>\n
Tributes poured in from colleagues and associates extolling Ehirim’s
\nvirtues especially his outspokenness and rich contributions to the
\njournalism profession in his over 20 years practice.<\/p>\n
Ehirim was an advocate of the rights of journalists in Nigeria with his
\ncampaign for the improvement of the working and living conditions of media
\nprofessionals in the country, who have been denied salaries and
\nentitlements after many years of service.<\/p>\n
He would be remembered for his campaign for the provision of\u00a0 health and
\ninsurance covers for journalists, who are exposed to hazards of the
\nprofession including threat to health and life which he, ironically, did
\nnot benefit from until his death.<\/p>\n
Tributes poured in from his colleagues on facebook.<\/p>\n
“He turned 50 today and he died on his birthday. His name is Chuks Ehirim,
\na journalist and immediate past Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists,
\nAbuja chapter. May his soul rest in peace”, said Chris Kehinde Nwandu
\n(CKN)<\/p>\n
The sun has set on Comrade Chuks Ehirim. Just sad!”, said Emmanuel
\nOgbeche, immediate past Secretary of NUJ, Abuja chapter, who worked with
\nEhirim.<\/p>\n
“I’m so shocked! I didn’t even know he was ill?!! God!!!! Sleep on in the
\nbosom of the Lord! You were a leader! Old school in your ways but
\ninquisitive enough to digress. I remember taking up the technicalities of
\nyour campaign; social media et al. Can’t forget”, said Nicholas Tayo
