{"id":50299,"date":"2016-06-19T18:42:43","date_gmt":"2016-06-19T17:42:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=50299"},"modified":"2016-06-19T19:22:21","modified_gmt":"2016-06-19T18:22:21","slug":"wont-spend-n1billion-cbn-agric-loan-frivolities-says-gov-ikpeazu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/wont-spend-n1billion-cbn-agric-loan-frivolities-says-gov-ikpeazu\/","title":{"rendered":"I won&#8217;t spend N1billion CBN Agric loan on frivolities, says Gov Ikpeazu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>&#8230;decries declining federal allocation to states<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has promised not to use<\/p>\n<p>the N1 billion (One Billion Naira) Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme<\/p>\n<p>loan which the state recently obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria<\/p>\n<p>(CBN) from frivolities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at Umuahia South and Isiala Ngwa North local government<\/p>\n<p>headquarters, he promised to make judicious disbursement of the money for<\/p>\n<p>the development of the state.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The governor, according to a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief<\/p>\n<p>Press Secretary, Emmanuel Enyinnaya Appolos, gave the assurance while<\/p>\n<p>rendering his one year stewardship in the state to the people of Abia<\/p>\n<p>Central Senatorial District, as part of the ongoing town hall meetings in<\/p>\n<p>the state.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing town hall interactive meeting was previously held at Ohafia<\/p>\n<p>and Isuikwuato LGAs for Abia North Senatorial district of the state.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Abia South district meeting is next on the program aimed at rendering the<\/p>\n<p>governor&#8217;s stewardship in the past one year to the people as well as get<\/p>\n<p>direct feedback from them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He decried the declining federal allocations to the state, but assured<\/p>\n<p>that his government will ensure that the current economic crisis will not<\/p>\n<p>affect his infrastructural development program and payment of workers&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>salaries in the state.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ikpeazu, however told the people of the state that he should not be<\/p>\n<p>pitied, over the harsh economic situation, stressing that he believes God<\/p>\n<p>has reasons for whatever circumstance He (God) allows.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The governor said, &#8220;I want you to understand that we are in tough times in<\/p>\n<p>the state. I am sure you&#8217;re aware of the economic hard times in the<\/p>\n<p>country that has occasioned the drastic drop in our monthly allocation to<\/p>\n<p>as low as N1.7 billion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Out monthly allocation as at today cannot support payment of workers<\/p>\n<p>salaries, not to talk of executing other projects. This has also impacted<\/p>\n<p>on our IGR as a state.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Don&#8217;t pity me because of the tough times. I know that my God is able to<\/p>\n<p>handle the situation. But let me assure you that amidst this obvious<\/p>\n<p>challenge, our government will continue to improve on our infrastructure<\/p>\n<p>and also pay salaries as we can, but I ask for your understanding and<\/p>\n<p>support in this hard time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do not have any other option than to improve the infrastructure in the<\/p>\n<p>state, especially at Aba, the commercial-hub, to motivate people to pay<\/p>\n<p>taxes thereby improving the internally-generated revenue of the state.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let me also reassure you of my promise, as your Governor, not to<\/p>\n<p>misappropiate the confidence you bestowed on me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let me inform you that we have received N1b agricultural loan from the<\/p>\n<p>CBN. This loan, I assure you, will be judiciously distributed to genuine<\/p>\n<p>farmers amongst us.
