Staff\u00a0 of the Ministry of Finance on Monday\u00a0 demanded\u00a0 the removal of the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun,\u00a0 over the non-payment of what they termed their allowances, which amounted to N1.2 billion.<\/p>\n
The protesters\u00a0 contend that Adeosun of collects her own allowances including N30 million for house rent annually.<\/p>\n
Some of the placards read: \u201cKemi Adeosun must go\u201d; \u201cYou are destroying Federal Ministry of Finance\u201d; \u201cInflation is 15% courtesy of Adeosun\u201d; \u201cPMB agent of positive change, Adeosun agent of negative change\u201d; \u201cAdeosun score card is zero\u201d; and \u201cAdeosun collects N30m house rent.\u201d<\/p>\n
They equally said she was high handed.
\nHowever, sources within the ministry said the protest was unwarranted.
\nThe Permanent Secretary, Mahmud Isa-Dutse, said the N1.2 billion was an illegal payment that the workers have been receiving at the beginning of the year before now.
\nThe money is said not to be captured in the Ministry\u2019s 2016 Budget, hence Adeosun\u2019s position not to pay the staff the sum.
\nA source close to Adeosun said the only salary yet to be paid was that of June, which is not yet due for payment.
\nHe described the demand for the N1.2 billion as \u201cillegal\u201d as it was not captured in the 2016 Budget.
\nAs at press time, policemen have been deployed to the Ministry to prevent the protest from getting out of hand.
\nThe protesters were restricted to the space within the Ministry.
