Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has opened up on how his
\nelection was funded two years ago by the Zenith Bank Plc, fund
\nraising, donations from friends and associates as well as sales of
\ncampaign souvenirs, saying; \u201cI have no financial transaction
\nwhatsoever with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA)
\nunder Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and former Minister of State for Defence,
\nSenator Musiliu Obanikoro either by cash, cheque or electronic
\ntransfer.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, the
\ngovernor challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
\n(EFCC) to publish statements made by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, his
\nson or any other person associated with money from the NSA office
\nwhere they claimed they gave him money for the election, adding that
\n\u201cEFCC is only acting a movie scripted, produced and directed by the
\nAll Progressives Congress (APC) government of President Mohammadu
\nBuhari just to silence me being a major opposition voice in the
\ncountry.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the alleged involvement of President Buhari\u2019s wife, Aisha Buhari in
\nthe Halliburton scam, the governor challenged the president\u2019s wife to
\nvisit the United States of America to convince Nigerians that she was
\nnot the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the judgment, convicting William
\nJefferson.<\/p>\n

He said; \u201cit is on record that the President has visited USA three
\ntimes and his wife did not travel with him. Equally, she ought to have
\nvisited USA last year September to chair a United Nation programme but
\nshe sent wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki to represent
\nher.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor said; \u201cthe management of Zenith Bank, which majorly
\nfunded my election, called me to a meeting where I was assured that
\nfund will be provided for my election.\u00a0 I was asked to nomine a
\ntrusted ally to be related with and I nominated Mr Abiodun Agbele.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the payments into Abiodun Agbele\u2019s account domiciled in Zenith
\nBank were directly from Zenith Bank. In actual fact, the account was
\nopened by Zenith Bank hurriedly at that time and Abiodun Agbele\u2019s
\nidentity card which ought to have been collected before the account
\nwas opened was only collected last week in the bank\u2019s desperation to
\nperfect the account obviously after submitting to the intimidation and
\nharassment of the EFCC.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the funds posted into Agbele\u2019s account were through the
\nIbadan, Akure and Lagos branches of the Zenith Bank and sometimes;
\nthey brought cash.<\/p>\n

\u201cAssuming but not conceding that cash moved from Lagos to Akure as
\nbeing claimed by the EFCC in its usual manner of media trial, was
\nmeant for my election in Ekiti, why was the cash not moved to Ado
\nEkiti branch of Zenith Bank or the cash handed to me directly? Why was
\nit deposited into Zenith Bank, Akure and did the bank make any report
\non the transaction to the appropriate authorities? Why did the bank
\nsend its bullion van to move the money from Akure Airport to their
\nAkure branch if it was illegal money?<\/p>\n

\u201cI must say it categorically that I don\u2019t have any link financially
\nwith Obanikoro and I know as a fact that he (Obanikoro) has not; and
\ncannot mention my name, as beneficiary of whatever money any company
\nin which he has interest could have gotten from the ONSA if truly
\nObanikoro collected money from the ONSA as being claimed by the EFCC.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, bringing Obanikoro and his son\u2019s narrative or that the
\nZenith Bank is telling different stories, having been blackmailed and
\ncoerced into submission by the EFCC is a joke that will not fly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to state further that if it becomes evidently clear that those
\nwho willingly provided money for my election can no longer stand by
\nwhat did, may be because of threat from the EFCC, I will not hesitate
\nto name names.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor, who challenged the EFCC to also beam its searchlights on
\nthe funding of APC elections, especially that of President Buhari,
\nsaid; \u201cSince we are now in the era in which financial assistance from
\nNigerians to fund elections is being criminalised, the international
\ncommunity, especially those funding EFCC must insist that the
\ncommission probes the funding of APC elections before further funds
\nare released to the commission.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost importantly, Nigerians are interested in the $60 million
\nallegedly donated to the APC campaign by Sahara Energy, on which EFCC
\nhas been forced to suspend investigation.<\/p>\n

He said it was obvious that he has become the main headache of
\nPresident Buhari\u2019s government, adding that; \u201cwhat they are doing now
\nis part of their grand plots to intimidate and harass me into
\nsubmission but I am not someone that can be cowed by threats of
\nincarceration and death.<\/p>\n

\u201cI advise that they should keep their gun pounder dry and wait till
\nthe end of my tenure in 2018 and I want to assure them that I will be
\navailable to answer any of their questions, no matter how
\nunreasonable.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurthermore, Nigerians should know that I have been persecuted by the
\nEFCC before, using phantom N1.2 billion poultry scam and I came out
\nvictorious. I was not only acquitted, I got N10 million judgment
\nagainst the EFCC and my impeachment that was orchestrated by the EFCC
\nwas quashed by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cNigerians should recall that it was part of this plot to get back at
\nme because of my critical stance on Buhari\u2019s government that the Ekiti
\nState House of Assembly was invaded by men of the Department of State
\nService (DSS), placement of travel ban on me and lately, illegal
\nfrozen of my account by the EFCC.<\/p>\n

\u201cI therefore make bold to state that in the overall interest of
\ndemocracy and well-being of Nigerians, I will continue to speak my
\nmind on issues bordering on governance in Nigeria. I will not be
