President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised not to dialogue with the Niger Delta Avengers but with the Leaders of the Niger Delta region.<\/div>\n
This advice is coming on the heels of the emergence as another militant group from the Itsekiri ethnic stock, christened, Asawana Deadly Force of Niger Delta, ADFND, based in Sapele Area of Delta State.<\/span><\/div>\n
A foremost Non-Government Organization, Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), which gives the advice, through its Coordinator Comrade Sheriff Mulade states that, if the federal government dialogues with the Niger Delta Avenger it will give room for other militant groups to spring up and crave for attention.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2018\u2019the federal government should dialogue with credible leaders from the Niger Delta region and not with militants especially the Avengers and youth bodies because it will give other youth groups the opportunity to carry arms against the state\u2019\u2019.<\/span><\/div>\n
It says that the environment of the area has been devastated because of oil spills occasioned by the continued bombings of the pipelines by the rampaging Niger Delta Avengers and their ilk, advising the militants to have a rethink over their nefarious activities as Niger Delta cannot develop in an atmosphere wracked by conflicts.<\/span><\/div>\n
CEPEJ advises government to be sincere with the Nigerian people and create enabling environment for her citizens to do their businesses, expressing worries over the spate of bombing in the different parts of the country especially the North East, saying that the state of insecurity was acceptable and urges government to adopt tough policy to nip the menace in the bud.<\/span><\/div>\n
Besides, the Center calls for the probe of military spending in the last 16 years to ascertain the true position of things and bring those who allegedly mismanaged such funds to face the wrath of the law.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2018\u2019Recent reports have stated that Boko Haram is more deadly than ISIS. It is true because the spate of bombing resulting in the deaths of Nigeria is alarming. Feelers coming out from the front lines have shown that the military are not well equipped to meet the December, 2016 deadline set by the federal government for the military to root out insurgents in the North East Nigeria.\u2019\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n
It acknowledges that the war on terrorism is a very complex one and calls for all hands to be on deck to tackle the threat, advising the military to adopt a step in counter terrorism with adequate measures to tighten security in the country.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2018\u2019The military need to have a broad plan involving all the security agencies to fight insurgency and other form of criminality\u2019\u2019.<\/span><\/div>\n
