Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Monday<\/span><\/span> disclosed that there is a
\ngovernment within government of President Muhammadu Buhari who have seized
\nthe apparatus of Executive powers to pursue their nefarious agenda.<\/p>\n

Saraki, who made the statement after appearing at a federal high Court
\nalongside his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, outgoing Clerk to the National
\nAssembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa and the Deputy Clerk, Ben Efeturi, said
\nthere is now a government within government of President Buhari.<\/p>\n

Saraki said he is ready to go to Jail in Defence of Nigeria’s democracy.<\/p>\n

He said what is going right now portend danger for Nigeria’s democracy
\nbecause the independence of Legislators has been jettisoned by alleged
\nforgery trial of Senate’ s rule book.<\/p>\n

He explained the issue regarding Senate’s Rule book is an internal affair
\nconsidering the independence of each arms of government.<\/p>\n

In his words,”Over the past year the Senate has worked to foster good
\nrelations with the Executive Branch.\u00a0 It is in all of our collective
\ninterests to put aside divisions and get on with the nation\u2019s business.
\nWe risk alienating and losing the support of the very people who have
\nentrusted their national leaders to seek new and creative ways to promote
\na secure and prosperous Nigeria.\u00a0 As leaders and patriots, it is time to
\nrise above partisanship and to move forward together.<\/p>\n

“However, what has become clear is that there is now a government within
\nthe government of President Buhari who have seized the apparatus of
\nExecutive powers to pursue their nefarious agenda.<\/p>\n

“This latest onslaught on the Legislature represents a clear and present
\ndanger to the democracy Nigerians fought hard to win and preserve.\u00a0 The
\nsuit filed on behalf of the Federal government suggests that perhaps some
\nforces in the Federal Republic have not fully embraced the fact that the
\nSenate\u2019s rules and procedures govern how the legislative body adjudicates
\nand resolves its own disputes.<\/p>\n

“Let it be abundantly clear, both as a citizen and as a foremost
\nLegislator, I will continue to rise above all the persecution and
\ndistraction that have been visited on me. In the words of Martin Luther
\nKing Junior, \u201cthe ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in
\nmoments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at a time of
\nchallenge and controversy\u201d.<\/p>\n

“I will remain true and committed to the responsibilities that my
\ncitizenship and my office impose on me. Without doubt, the highest of
\nthose responsibilities is the steadfast refusal to surrender to the
\nsubversion of our democracy and the desecration of the Senate. This is a
\ncross I am prepared to carry. If yielding to the nefarious agenda of a few
\nindividuals who are bent in undermining our democracy and destabilising
\nthe Federal government to satisfy their selfish interests is the
\nalternative to losing my personal freedom, let the doors of jails be
