{"id":50822,"date":"2016-06-30T13:10:04","date_gmt":"2016-06-30T12:10:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=50822"},"modified":"2016-06-30T13:10:04","modified_gmt":"2016-06-30T12:10:04","slug":"fugitive-senator-buruji-kashamu-bribed-nigerian-judges-politicians-quash-extradition-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/fugitive-senator-buruji-kashamu-bribed-nigerian-judges-politicians-quash-extradition-case\/","title":{"rendered":"How Fugitive Senator, Buruji Kashamu, Bribed Nigerian Judges, Politicians to Quash His Extradition Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>\u2026 US Angry with Nigeria<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Extensive investigations conducted by Pointblanknews.com have revealed a<br \/>\nwidening bribery scandal involving Senator Buruji Kashamu, some Nigerian<br \/>\njudges, son of President Mohammadu Buhari and a cousin of the wife of the<br \/>\nPresident, Aisha Buhari, in a bribery scheme designed to quash the<br \/>\nextradition case of the senator to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The United States Justice Department officials are already furious over<br \/>\nroles played by Nigerian politicians aided by the judiciary and have<br \/>\nexpressed dismay at the bungling of the case which depicted all the<br \/>\ntrappings of rabid corruption on the part of Nigeria&#8217;s judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>Sources at the U.S DOJ and the State Department confirmed to<br \/>\nPointblanknews.com that while they would not want to comment on activities<br \/>\nbordering on investigations of a criminal act, the U.S Government is<br \/>\nparticularly disappointed at turn of event with the Buruji\u2019s extradition<br \/>\ncase.<\/p>\n<p>According to a Justice Department official who does not want to be named<br \/>\nbecause he is not authorized to speak on the matter \u201cWe expected the<br \/>\ncurrent Government to be different from the past but it is disappointing<br \/>\nthat we seem to have been deceived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kashamu and 14 others were, in 1998, charged by a federal grand jury<br \/>\nfor their alleged involvement in an international conspiracy to smuggle<br \/>\nheroin into the United States, according to U.S court papers.<br \/>\nHe fled to the U.K. where repeated efforts by the U.S. to extradite him<br \/>\nfailed, before he returned to Nigeria and became a Senator.<\/p>\n<p>The US government has, following the development, initiated moves to reach<br \/>\nout to the Buhari government over the matter.<\/p>\n<p>According to a source, \u201cWe are not given up. We are making efforts to<br \/>\ndiscuss with the President of Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad Abdallah, the NDLEA Chairman, had told a Nigeria based online<br \/>\nmedium in an interview recently\u200e that the agency is under the control of<br \/>\nthe Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are an agency under the Attorney-General, once the Attorney General is<br \/>\ninvolved in a matter we are, we must necessarily step aside for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no two governments in Nigeria. The NDLEA is not an independent<br \/>\norganisation, it\u2019s an organisation under the Attorney General. The<br \/>\nAttorney General is handling that, so we have nothing to say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But sources told pointblanknews.com that on the orders of the AGF, the<br \/>\nNational Security Adviser to the President and some very powerful APC<br \/>\nchieftains, the NDLEA was directed to ands off the case against Buruji.<\/p>\n<p>A frustrated NDLEA official told pointblanknews.com on condition of<br \/>\nanonymity that officials of the agency were shocked to note that the<br \/>\norders came from officials of the Presidency who were supposed to be<br \/>\nchampioning the fight against corruption.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;we were very shocked. All our efforts to honor the request of the United<br \/>\nStates have been frustrated. The extradition request is now politics.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sources told Pointblanknews.com that while Mr. Buruji was playing<br \/>\nhanky-panky with NDLEA officials, he had received assurances from some<br \/>\npoliticians that upon parting with some money, he can be free, according<br \/>\nto an insider familiar with the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Kashamu allegedly doled out $1 million to Judges handling the case<br \/>\nto quash his extradition proceeding over drug crimes committed in Chicago<br \/>\nwhich prompted the United States to declare him wanted.<\/p>\n<p>Impeccable sources told Pointblanknews.com that some APC chieftains<br \/>\nintroduced Senator Kashamu to Yusuf Buhari, the son of President Buhari<br \/>\nand the brother of the First Lady called Alhaji Yola. The duo then took<br \/>\nthe desperate Buruji to some friends of the President who then took the<br \/>\nmatter to the President&#8217;s top aides.<\/p>\n<p>The two top aides of the President turned out to be the chief of Staff,<br \/>\nAbba Kyari and the National Security Adviser, NSA, Mohammed Babagana<br \/>\nMonguno. Both men were alleged to have agreed that the embattled PDP<br \/>\nSenator settle some Judges for the extradition case to be killed.<\/p>\n<p>Acting on the advice of the top Buhari aides, Buruji was alleged to have<br \/>\napproached a Judge who took him to the Judge handling his case at a Lagos<br \/>\nCourt whom he allegedly gave $1million, according to a source familiar<br \/>\nwith the case who does not want to be named.<\/p>\n<p>The source added that buruji further doled out another $1million to the<br \/>\nChief of Staff and the NSA and another undisclosed amount to the son of<br \/>\nthe President and the first lady&#8217;s cousin.<\/p>\n<p>Both young men have been the toast of politicians seeking favours from the<br \/>\nPresidency. The duo has been seen in Senator Kashamu&#8217;s house on several<br \/>\noccasions.<\/p>\n<p>The hitherto unknown son of the President has been besieged by politicians<br \/>\nwho see him as his father\u2019s confidant and pressure him to collect money<br \/>\nfor favours.<\/p>\n<p>Following moves by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to<br \/>\neffect the arrest of Senator kashamu immediately after his election, the<br \/>\nsenator approached a Lagos High Court seeking to prevent the agency from<br \/>\narresting him.<\/p>\n<p>With two court orders, the NDLEA which had refused to vacate his Lagos<br \/>\nresidence eventually left Kashamu following pressure on the agency to<br \/>\nrespect the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria has an extradition treaty with the United States on drug and other<br \/>\nrelated crimes.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that in the decision of the US District Court, in May<br \/>\n2013, Judge Charles Norgle had held that Mr. Kashamu had done everything<br \/>\nwithin his power, including document forgery as well as political<br \/>\npressure, to frustrate his trial in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>A previous request to extradite Kashamu from Britain failed in 2003.<br \/>\nKashamu spent five years in a British jail before he was freed over<br \/>\nuncertainty about his identity.
