\u2026Shell resumes exports of 400,000bpd<\/em><\/p>\n

The expectation of a dialogue between the Federal Government and
\nstakeholders in the Niger Delta region to resolve the bombing campaign of
\noil and gas facilities by militants maybe far fetched as the President
\nMohammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is looking in a different
\ndirection with the contracting of the dreaded United States security
\noutfit, Blackwater Securities.<\/p>\n

In 2015, Four former Blackwater Worldwide security guards were handed
\ndecades-long sentences by a U.S Court, ending a case stemming from the
\ndeadly shootings of dozens of Iraqi civilians in 2007.
\nThis is coming as American oil giants, Chevron Nigeria Limited(CNL),
\nsuffered another major loss as its three manifolds at Digbolo in Warri
\nNorth Council Area of Delta State\u00a0 have been blown up by suspected
\nmilitants. The manifolds are RMP 22, 23 and 24 respectively.<\/p>\n

Pointblanknews.com learnt that the incident happened at about 11.00 pm on
\nWednesday.<\/p>\n

The rampaging Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, has claimed responsibility for
\nthe deadly attacks.<\/p>\n

The group has stated repeatedly that it would ensure that the company
\nwould\u00a0 no longer do\u00a0 business in the oil rich but crisis-scarred state.<\/p>\n

The group in a statement signed by its spokesperson, \u2018\u2019Brigadier
\nGeneral\u2019Mudoch Agbinibo said: \u201cBetween the hours of 10:50pm to 11:10 pm,
\nour (Niger Delta Avengers) strike team blew up Chevron manifolds. The
\nmanifolds are RMP 22, 23 and 24.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Royal Dutch Shell’s Nigerian division said it has lifted a force
\nmajeure on exports of Bonny Light crude oil on Thursday. The Bonny Light
\nexport terminal began the\u00a0 export of 400,000 barrels per day Bonny Light
\noil from Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The force majeure was lifted from 09:00 a.m. Nigerian time (0800 GMT) on
\nThursday, the company said in a statement following restoration of
\nproduction into Bonny Terminal.<\/p>\n

Pointblanknews.com gathered that President Buhari and the oil companies,
\nin a mutual agreement to secure\u00a0 oil and gas assets, contracted Black
\nWater security to tackle Niger Delta militants and provide security to oil
\nassets in the region.<\/p>\n

Operatives of the outfit are believed to have already deployed to the
\nregion in the guise of oil\u00a0 and construction workers necessitating\u00a0 the
\nresumption of activities by Shell and other companies in spite of the
\nthreats posed by the militants.<\/p>\n

Further investigations showed that the Saudi Blackwater Securities which
\nthe Buhari government engaged for a fee of $285 million following a\u00a0 pact
\nreached between Buhari and some Islamic nations on the fight against
\nterrorism, is the same Blackwater security facing trial in United States
\nover the\u00a0 killing of 17 Iraqi civilians and other human rights abuses.<\/p>\n

The company owned by\u00a0 Erik Prince, a retired US military officer has
\nsubsidiaries in different countries notably United Arab Emirates,
\nAfghanistan, Iraq, Yemen among others where mercenaries are trained to
\nprovide alternative security in countries where there are security
\nthreats.<\/p>\n

While the Buhari government wants Nigerians to believe that the security
\noutfit is owned by Anwar Eshki, a retired Major General in the Saudi Armed
\nForces, Blackwater Security, has used subsidiaries in different countries
\nto evade litigations trailing the outfit everywhere it goes.<\/p>\n

Pointblanknews.com investigations gathered that oil companies operating in
\nthe region were concerned about the poor funding and lack of amphibian
\ntraining on the part of Nigerian security agents in reaching the decision
\nto partner with the Nigerian government in hiring Blackwater Securities.<\/p>\n

But some stakeholders in the Niger Delta pooh-poohed the deployment saying
\nit would not be a solution to the crisis.<\/p>\n

“This is not the solution. Dialogue remains the only viable option.
\nGovernment should engage the governors and leaders of thought in the area.
\nThe people they are deploying are they not foreigners? They would be easy
\npickings for the militants who are familiar with the terrain”, an
\nenvironmental activist, Harriman Mudock, said.<\/p>\n

There are also concerns that the US government, being the owners of
\nChevron, view the deployment as development that is in their national
\ninterest.<\/p>\n

Writing for New York Times under the title “These Guns for Hire”, Managing
\nEditor of Discovery Channel,Ted Koppelmay, said:<\/p>\n

‘So, what about the inevitable next step \u2014 a defensive military force paid
\nfor directly by the corporations that would most benefit from its
\nprotection? If, for example, an insurrection in Nigeria threatens that
\nnation’s ability to export oil (and it does), why not have Chevron or
\nExxon Mobil underwrite the dispatch of a battalion or two of mercenaries?<\/p>\n

‘Chris Taylor, the vice president for strategic initiatives and corporate
\nstrategy for Blackwater USA, wanted to be sure I understood that such a
\nthing could only happen with the approval of the Nigerian government and
\nat least the tacit understanding of Washington. But could Blackwater
\nprovide a couple of battalions under those circumstances? “600 people in a
\nbattalion,” he answered.<\/p>\n

“I could source 1,200 people, yes. There are people all over the world who
\nhave honorably served in their military or police organizations. I can go
\nfind honorable, vetted people, recruit them, train them to the standard we
\nrequire.<\/p>\n

“It could have the merit of stabilizing oil prices, thereby serving the
\nAmerican national interest, without even tapping into the federal budget.
\nMeanwhile, oil companies could protect some of their more vulnerable
\noverseas interests without the need to embroil Congress in the tiresome
\nquestion of whether Americans should be militarily engaged in a sovereign
\nthird world nation”, he said.<\/p>\n

He said the owner of Blackwater Securities is moving far away from
\ninvestigative authorities in the US and constantly changing his company
\nname.<\/p>\n

“For Mr. Prince, the foreign battalion is a bold attempt at reinvention.
\nHe is hoping to build an empire in the desert, far from the trial lawyers,
\nCongressional investigators and Justice Department officials he is
\nconvinced worked in league to portray Blackwater as reckless.
\n“He sold the company last year, but in April, a federal appeals court
\nreopened the case against four Blackwater guards accused of killing 17
\nIraqi civilians in Baghdad in 2007. To help fulfill his ambitions, Mr.
\nPrince\u2019s new company, Reflex Responses, obtained another
\nmultimillion-dollar contract to protect a string of planned nuclear power
\nplants and to provide cybersecurity. He hopes to earn billions more, the
\nformer employees said, by assembling additional battalions of Latin
\nAmerican troops for the Emiratis and opening a giant complex where his
\ncompany can train troops for other governments.<\/p>\n

“Knowing that his ventures are magnets for controversy, Mr. Prince has
\nmasked his involvement with the mercenary battalion. His name is not
\nincluded on contracts and most other corporate documents, and company
\ninsiders have at times tried to hide his identity by referring to him by
\nthe code name \u201cKingfish.\u201d But three former employees, speaking on the
\ncondition of anonymity because of confidentiality agreements, and two
\npeople involved in security contracting described Mr. Prince\u2019s central
