When it was reported that the Benue State deputy governor, Engr. Benson
\nAbounu was to be impeached, litle did many believed. But checks have shown
\nthat the Benue House of Assembly (BNHOA) has begun moves geared towards
\nimpeaching Abounu who was alleged to have connived with his son, Dr.
\nAbounu Abounu to cause a thorough investigations into activities of the
\nassembly by anti-graft agencies .<\/p>\n
It was also gathered that the impeachment plot was coming at the heels of
\nthe recent detention of the Speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange, and other principal
\nofficers of the House based on the petition.<\/p>\n
The lawmakers saw that act as a direct exercise of mischief, betrayal and
\ndistrust orchestrated by the deputy governor consequent upon which they
\nhave concluded plans to humiliate the state\u2019s number two citizen out of
\noffice. They believed Abounu must have blessed his son’s actions and
\nactually furnished him with some details to that effect.<\/p>\n
A source knowledgeable enough about the plot said the plan was hatched
\nduring an emergency evil gathering of the lawmakers, which took place at
\nthe Benue Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.<\/p>\n

\nso far signed the notice of impeachment while 10 more members are
\ncurrrrently pressured to endorse the act in order to secure the required

\nmembers that were recently detained for alleged involvement in a

\nasking while the father could be made to bear such heat arising from the
\nconsequences of his son’s conduct.<\/p>\n
“Initially I thought that plans by the BNHOA to impeach the Deputy Gov of
\nBenue state Engr Benson Abounu was a ruse to divert attention from their
\nEFCC ordeal but events seem to be pointing towards that direction.The
\nimpeachment plot was reported widely that the plan to impeach him is
\nbecause he may have connived with his son Dr Abounu to invite the anti
\ngraft body into the serial corruption allegations against the state
\nassembly. Can the ‘sins’ of the son be visited on his father?”, he
\nstressed.<\/p>\n
“It is even speculated that signatures have been collected from 20 members
\nso far to execute this plot. It would be one of their greatest undoing if
\nthey attempt to impeach the deputy governor because the sword of damocles
\nwill now be hanging on their heads.they should face their problems and
\nleave the man out of their evil plans. They would be telling the world
\nclearly that they are guilty of the issues brought before the EFCC.<\/p>\n

He called on Governor Samuel Ortom to live by his words that, ‘if you chop
\nmoney, money will chop you’.<\/p>\n
The House is dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with
\n15 members, while the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has
\n14 and Labour Party has one. Eighteen House members, including the deputy
\nspeaker, Hon. James Okefe.<\/p>\n
