A network of pan Yoruba groups has asked Ijaw leaders to caution militants
\noperating in Ikorodu areas of Lagos, warning that the continuous<\/p>\n
killings of innocent Yoruba people may prompt reprisal attacks on Ijaw
\ninterests in the entire Southwest areas.<\/p>\n
The groups issued the statement after an extensive meeting in Lagos on
\nThursday night. Over 25 leaders of Pan-Yoruba groups attended the all
\nnight meeting. It said that Yoruba people are being raped and killed in
\nthe day and night. “Why these elements may not be acting on behalf of teh
\nentire Ijaw nation, the Ijaw leaders certainly know how to tame them.”<\/p>\n
In the statement issued by the groups, the alliance said militants of Ijaw
\nextraction have been attacking Yoruba communities and that in the last
\ncount, 89 Yoruba people have been killed in the most gruesome manner.<\/p>\n
This is unprovoked aggression against the Yoruba nation. We warn that the
\nmainstream Yoruba self determination groups will respond with equal
\nmeasure if the continuous attack on Yoruba people continues.<\/p>\n
Several groups who signed the communiqu\u00e9 included the Oodua Peoples
\nCongress, (OPC), Oodua Nationalist Coalition (ONAC), Oodua Liberation
\nMovement, (OLM), Yoruba Renaissance Movement, (YRM), Agbekoya, Movement
\nfor Yoruba Autonomy, (MOYA), Yoruba Revolutionary Vanguard, (YRV), Oodua
\nAutonomy Coalition, (OAC) amongst others.<\/p>\n
The groups said that the killing of Yoruba women, raping of mothers,
\nkidnapping of people from their homelands and forcing people to flee their
\nancestral territories represent a declaration of war on Yoruba people. The
\ngroup said these attacks have been intensified since former President
\nGoodluck Jonathan, an Ijaw person lost power.<\/p>\n
The groups stated \u201cIt is becoming clearer that the Ijaw leaders see Yoruba
\nas their enemies. This is insensible and rash on their path. It shows lack
\nof deep thinking. The Yorubas are not responsible for the mass looting of
\nNigeria under Jonathan. Mr Jonathan was the architect of his own downfall.
\nHe saw a golden opportunity and bungled it. He also deliberately worked
\nwith notable rogues and drug barons in Yorubaland neglecting the tradition
\nof ethical high ground of Yoruba philosophy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The groups said that the militants have created armed camps across the
\nwaterways in Yorubaland, saying that this can only come from those bent on
\nattacking and inflicting injuries on the psyche of the Yoruba people.<\/p>\n
The network also berated the lopsided appointments by the President
\nMohammed Buhari\u2019s administration saying that the President\u2019s main mission
\nis to relaunch Hausa-Fulani domination of Nigerian ethnic groups.
\n\u201cPresident Buhari is on a dangerous mission. He is seeking revenge where
\nthere should be love. We are not opposed to the anti-corruption crusade,
\nbut he has left the root cause of corruption which is the lopsided
\nstructure and institutions that represent eternal faultlines of Nigerian
\nimperfect democracy. The network said that the alliance between the Yoruba
\nand Buhari were put together by \u201cshortsighted and self-serving people\u201d who
\nappear to be guided by self interest rather than the overall interest of
\nthe people they represent.<\/p>\n
The network stated \u201cIt should be clear now to any reasonable person that
\nthe alliance with the Hausa-Fulani has collapsed. The Yoruba people should
\nbegin the process for the realization of their own Republic for there lay
