A frontline Second Republic politician and Northern leader, Dr. Junaid
\nMohammed told The Guardian yesterday that some cabal in the Presidency
\ndoctored the Arms Procurement Probe Report to shield the former Chief of
\nArmy Staff and Minister of Interior, Major General Abdulrahman Dambazau
\n(rtd) and former Director of Procurements, Defence Headquarters, who is
\nalso current Chief Of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai.<\/p>\n
Mohammed said: \u201cNigerians should recall that the three Chiefs of Army
\nStaff who served during the period under review included Major General
\nAbdulrahman Dambazau, who is also the current Minister of Interior, Major
\nGeneral Azubuike Ihejirika, Major General Kenneth Minimah and Major
\nGeneral Tukur Buratai, who before his appointment as the current Chief of
\nArmy Staff, was Director of Procurement, Defence Headquarters for years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Report of the Committee was doctored in the Presidency by some cabal
\nafter it was submitted, to shield Dambazau and Buratai who were allegedly
\nindicted.<\/p>\n
\u201cDambazau is a close ally of Alhaji Mamman Daura, who is President
\nBuhari\u2019s nephew, and also head of the \u2018cabal\u2019 in Buhari\u2019s presidency
\ntoday. Buratai is an ally of Dambazau and President Buhari. So there is no
\nway the Presidency will not shield the duo.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mohammed said that there was no way Buratai and Dambazau would not have
\nbeen indicted in the Report, having served as director of procurement in
\nthe Defence Headquarters and Chief of Army Staff under the period
\nreviewed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy is Ihejirika under any form of detention now? Why is he being
\nharassed, when the Presidency is shielding some persons indicted in the
\nreport? Is it because he is not President\u2019s ally or not from the North?
\nPresident Buhari should publish the original copy of the Report, the way
\nthat of Nigerian Air Force mess was made public.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigerians should know that as far as the cabal holds sway in Aso Rock,
\nnothing will happen to Dambazua and Buratai,\u201d Mohammed noted.A source in
\nthe Presidency who craved anonymity told The Guardian that Dambazua was
\nnot indicted in the Report, because during his era as Chief of Army Staff,
\nawarding of contracts and procurement of arms was being carried out by the
\nMinistry of Defence, not office of the Chief of Army Staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was after Dambazua left office that his successor took charge of
\nawarding of contracts and procurement in the service. So there is no iota
\nof truth in the allegation that the report was doctored to shield him.\u201d<\/p>\n
On why Mohammed is alleging that the report was doctored to shield
\nDambazua, the source said: \u201cYou know that Mohammed and Dambazua are from
\nKano State. It has something to do with politics of the State, and choice
\nof minister from the State. Some persons from the state preferred somebody
\nelse, specifically President Buhari\u2019s longtime ally who got himself
\ninvolved corruption act, not Dambazau, to be minister. They are not
\ncomfortable with his choice, but that was the President\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
However, the Federal Government yesterday said there is no truth in the
\ninsinuation that the report of the Presidential Committee on the Audit of
\nDefence Equipment Procurement in the Armed Forces (2007-2015) was doctored
\nfor whatever reasons.<\/p>\n
