Senate President, Bukola Saraki has reached out to the group of Senators\r\nopposing his leadership, offering them juicy committee positions in his\r\nlatest reshuffle of leadership of the Senate standing Committees.\r\n\r\nOne of the most notable critics of the Senate President, Senator Kabiru\r\nMarafa, was appointed Chairman of the Petroleum (Downstream) Committee, a\r\nposition considered an upgrade from his previous portfolio of chairman of\r\nthe Committee on National Population.\r\n\r\nAnother critic of Dr. Saraki, Senator Oluremi Tinubu,  was named\r\nchairperson of the Committee on Environment. Mrs. Tinubu, wife of the Bola\r\nAhmed Tinubu, was a known critic of the Senate President in solidarity\r\nwith her husband who was perceived to have been slighted by the emergence\r\nof Saraki as Senate President against his wish. Mrs. Tinubu was formerly\r\nthe chairperson of the Committee on Women Affairs.\r\n\r\nSenator Suleiman Hukunyi, another critic of the senate president, is now\r\nin charge of the Committee on National Identity.\r\n\r\nAll the new appointees to what observers said were more important and\r\njuicy committees were members of the Unity Forum, a group of APC senators\r\nwho have been opposed to the Saraki-leadership of the Senate.\r\n\r\nThe group had earlier demanded a restructuring of the Senate committees as\r\na precondition for peace to return to the factionalized senate.\r\n<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
