As part of efforts to boost educational, cultural and business ties with<\/p>\n
the State of Kuwait, Sokoto government said it is making concerted efforts
\nto benefit from the Arab country\u2019s $1billion development fund set aside for
\nintervention in critical social sectors in Sub Saharan Africa.
\nMaking this known when he visited the Kuwait Embassy in Abuja, Governor
\nAminu Waziri Tambuwal said since setting aside the fund in 2013 to be
\nexpended within a five year circle, significant number of projects have
\nbeen executed by the Kuwait government in Africa.
\n\u201cWe are making presentations to benefit from the fund and use the proceeds
\nto intervene in sectors like health, education, water supply and women
\ndevelopment. We are mindful of the fact that large chunk of it has been
\naccessed by sister African countries, but we are determined to ensure our
\npeople are not left behind in this important intervention.
\n\u201cIn addition to this, we believe we can expand our areas for cooperation
\nwith the Kuwaitis and I\u2019m here to invite them to explore areas of
\ninvestment in Sokoto. We have competitive advantage in sectors like
\nagriculture and mining, and I want our two states to benefit from what each
\nother can offer,\u201d Tambuwal said, according to a statement issued by his
\nspokesman, Malam Imam Imam, in Sokoto Sunday.
\nThe Governor added that Kuwait and Sokoto government are also collaborating
\nin area of management of Zakkat and endowment funds.
\nIn his remarks, Kuwait Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Abdulaziz Ahmad
\nAl-Sharrah, commended the Sokoto government for showing interest in
\nbenefitting from the fund, saying his country is keen to deepen areas of
\ncooperation with Nigeria and other African countries.
\nOther areas of cooperation discussed between the Governor and the
\nAmbassador include cultural exchanges, increased infrastructure development
