The Presidency took a swipe at Dr. Mohammed Junaid criticism of President
\nMohammadu Buhari, accusing him of “bad belle” in a rejoinder signed by
\nChief Okoi Obono-obla, Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution.<\/p>\n
Junaid, a vocal Northern leader had accused President Buhari of nepotism
\nin an interview with The Punch Newspapers weekend.<\/p>\n
Obono-Obla said there was nothing wrong for the President appointing
\nanyone of his choice regardless of family ties, drawing comparison with
\nPresident John Kennedy who appointed his immediate brother, Robert
\nKennedy.<\/p>\n
His rejoinder reads:<\/p>\n
I have read the wild allegation of nepotism levelled against President
\nMuhammadu Buhari by Dr Jinadu Mohammed in an interview he granted\u00a0\u00a0 Punch
\nNewspaper edition of Saturday the 23 July 2016 ; and I truly think that
\nthe allegation is indeed baseless and hogwash.<\/p>\n
It is unfortunate and a huge disappointment that such frivolous
\nhistrionics and diatribe could come from the mouth of a supposedly elder,
\nlearned person and Statesman like Dr. Jinuadu Mohammed. For the purpose of
\nthis write up, I will not delved into other acerbic allegations levelled
\nby Dr Mohammed against President Buhari but try to\u00a0 restrict myself to
\nthat bothering on nepotism.<\/p>\n
It is illogical for Jinadu Mohammed to suggest that Amina Zakaria , the
\nINEC National Commissioner was appointed by Buhari . She was appointed by.
\nFormer President Goodluck Jonathan. I did not believe that it was Buhari
\nwho gave her name to former President Jonathan because at the time she was
\nappointed President Buhari was a leading Opposition in the country. Mamman
\nDaura is not holding any government position. Therefore making a heavy
\nweather of the appointment of certain people who Jinadu Mohammed perceived
\nto be related to Mamman Daura is unfortunate and unfair!\u00a0 I do not
\nhonestly anything morally or constitutionally wrong or improper for
\nPresident Buhari appointing relations of\u00a0 Mamman Daura! Are they not
\nNigerians?<\/p>\n
Is Jinadu Mohammed suggesting that President Buhari should cut off from
\nhis relatives such as Mamman Daura because he is President! The Minister
\nof Water Resources, Adamu Suleiman, I know very well and\u00a0 has been close
\nto President\u00a0 Buhari since 2003 when he entered politics. Suleiman Adamu
\nhas always work assiduously to promote the\u00a0 candidacy of President Buhari
\nin all the elections he had contested . He was the Vice Chairman of the
\ndefunct CPC for North West. He is a competent, experienced\u00a0 and well
\neducated engineer who deserve to be appointed Minister in his own Right .
\nHe was never appointed Minister because of the reasons suggested by Jinadu
\nMohammed. Conversely, is there anything wrong with the appointment of the
\nMinister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello? Is Jinadu
\nMohammed, suggesting that the father of the Minister is purportedly of
\nPresident Buhari\u2019s friend he should be appointed ; even though he is
\neminently Qualified for such an appointment! This is strange and
\nillogical!\u00a0 In the United States of America, President John Kennedy
\nappointed his immediate brother, Robert Kennedy and heavens did not fall.
\nThere is nothing constitutionally, administratively, morally restraining a
\nPresident from appointing a person related with him by blood in so far as
\nthat person is eligible!<\/p>\n
The positions mentioned by Jinadu Mohammed such as Director of Protocol
\n(SCOOP) ; ADC ( Colonel Abubakar) and Personal Assistant (Sabiu Yusuf) ,
\nhe alleged are occupied by Buhari\u2019s relations are not political
\nappointments but inconsequential administrative and personal positions
\nthat Buhari reserve the prerogative to appoint people of his choice .
\nJinadu Mohammed has also not told us how the Minister from Kaduna\u2019s
\nrelationship with Governor Nasir El Rufai dis entitles her from being
\nappointed as Minister. In any case, Governor El Rufai is not President
\nBuhari \u2018s relation; so how does the charge of nepotism come in!<\/p>\n
The outbursts of Jinadu Mohammed is therefore in the realm of an emotional
\noutburst, sour grapes\u00a0 and bad belle. When will Dr Mohammed see anything
\ngood in another person! The other day, he thoroughly\u00a0 ridiculed and abused
\nAbubakar Malami, SAN, the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation
\nand Minister and wrongly and inappropriately\u00a0 dismissed\u00a0 him as a \u201d charge
\nand bail\u201d lawyer ! Can you imagine! In most African cultures, it is wrong
\nand inappropriate for an elderly person like Dr Mohammed to abuse a
\nyounger such as Abubakar Malami,SAN in such a vitriolic manner in the
\nguise of being a public critic!<\/p>\n
