At the 2016 edition of the annual Hall Week of Moremi Hostel, University of
\nLagos (UNILAG), the internationally acknowledged Woman of Courage and
\nprominent activist, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin was specially honored.<\/p>\n
Among the queue of educating, social, entrepreneurial and motivational
\nprograms, the Moremi Hall had hosted a public speaking and inter-hostel
\ndebating competition. The competition showcased intellectuals among
\nstudents, who debated on spontaneously assigned topics at the hall week
\nevent on Monday.<\/p>\n
As an interesting addition, the event included a special recognition
\nsession for the prominent activist, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, who was
\npresented with Amazon of The Year Award. The award, organizers of the event
\nsaid, was to recognize the role of a prominent woman who has defended the
\nprecious gender against abuse and vulnerability over the years and also
\nconsistently stood as model for younger male and females to emulate.<\/p>\n
Presenting the award to Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, the Moremi Hall Mistress,
\nProf. Virgy Onyene appraised the awardee\u2019s commitment to the development of
\nyounger male and females. She commended Dr. Okei-Odumakin for identifying
\nwith students as well as leading an awareness rally tagged \u201cSilence Not
\nGolden\u201d on the campus, which amplified the voices of students in UNILAG
\nagainst abuses.<\/p>\n
In her response as the recipient of Amazon of the Year Award, Dr. Joe
\nOkei-Odumakin commended the participants in the public speaking
\ncompetition. She said she had been moved by the display of intellects by
\nthe participants, while also offering prizes to the first, second and third
\nwinner in acknowledgment of their exemplary performances.<\/p>\n
She appreciated the organizers for putting up such programs that challenge
\nstudents to explore their potentials. Dr. Okei-Odumakin accepted the award,
\nwhile also telling some high points of her story to inspire the students,
\nnever to give up on their dreams but to remain steadfast in their visions.
