A civic group, Citizens of Impact (CI), has urged the Federal Government<\/p>\n
to immediately reverse the recent secret and dubious recruitment made by
\nthe Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Inland Revenue Service
\n(FIRS). CI threatened to stage mass action should the government fail to
\nheed its demand.<\/p>\n
The group made the call on Monday at a press conference in Abuja,
\nNigeria\u2019s capital. Speaking to reporters, CI\u2019s leader, Daniel Seun
\nOlatunde, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to break his loud silence and
\ninvestigate the misdemeanor committed by the Governor of the Central Bank
\nof Nigeria and the head of FIRS, adding that the officials deserved to be
\nsanctioned.<\/p>\n
According to the group, the executive chairman of FIRS, Mr. Babatunde
\nFowler, reportedly recruited about 400 staffers related to his cronies as
\nwell as relatives of other government officials. A relative of Senator
\nJohn Enoh, chairman of the Senate committee on finance, was one of those
\nwho received one of the highly desirable jobs.<\/p>\n
Mr. Daniel alleged that Mr. Fowler had already carried out this secret
\nrecruitment before his agency invited Nigerians to apply for the jobs. The
\nCI spokesman accused Mr. Fowler of perjuring himself before the Senate and
\ntelling barefaced lies to Nigerians, misleading job seekers to apply for
\njobs that had been handed out to the relatives of privileged Nigerians.<\/p>\n
The group also remarked that the CBN secretly recruited 909 staffers
\nbetween June 2014 and February 2015 in violation of due process and
\nfederal character principles. \u201cCBN opted for a secret process of hiring
\nnew staff in the past two years because the bank was doing \u2018targeted
\nrecruitment,\u2019\u201d said Mr. Daniel. He added, \u201cIt is obvious the CBN’s target
\nwere the children and relatives of the rich and powerful as the list of
\nthe new hires reads like a \u2018who\u2019s who in Nigeria.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
CI queried why there was no public advertisement of the vacancies, noting
\nthat several weeks after media reports of the scandalous practice, the
\ngovernment continued to maintain a loud silence. Mr. David stated that the
\nbank\u2019s illegal recruitment had not been condemned, reversed or
\ninvestigated.<\/p>\n
The group declared that it would mobilize all Nigerians across the country
\nto protest the injustice going on the country if the government failed to
