State governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress
\n(APC) on Tuesday in Abuja met with President Muhammadu Buhari and
\nreassured him of their support and loyalty.<\/p>\n
Gov. Rochas Okorochas of Imo, who spoke to State House correspondents
\nafter the meeting held in the Presidential Villa, said the governors were
\nbehind the ongoing anti-corruption crusade of the Buhari-led
\nadministration.<\/p>\n
He said they also saluted the president for the successes so far recorded
\nin the ongoing fight against insurgency in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have come to reassure Mr President that the APC\u200e governors are solidly
\nbehind him, his fight against corruption; his fight against insurgents and
\nall his laudable projects.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are concerned about the incessant happenings in the National Assembly
\nand we have taken it upon ourselves to look into the matter, the crisis at
\nthe National Assembly.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are going to look into the matter because we need a strong, vibrant
\nNational Assembly to make things move fast in the country,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
On the financial position of the states, Mr. Okorochas acknowledged that
\nthere had been some improvements in the finances.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a lot of improvement. You will recall that when oil was above
\n100 dollars, what the states are getting \u200enow is close to what they used
\nto get when oil price was above 100 dollars.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
According to him, this is a clear indication that the President Buhari-led
\nadministration was doing a lot to revive the economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not yet there, but we are getting there. We appeal to Nigerians to
\nbe patient with this government because it means well about the welfare of
\nour people.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
\u200eOn the criticism trailing the proposed visit of some governors to Germany
\nfor training, the governor dismissed the insinuation that planned visit
\nwas a jamboree.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is nothing like jamboree trip.\u200e We are going to Germany because we
\ncannot do everything here without exchanging ideas.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything you do in your home, your business you share ideas.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, we want to see how they have done what they had done to succeed. The
\naspiration of Nigeria is to be like other developed countries in the
\nworld.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
