Elder statesmen in the northern part of the country under the auspices of<\/p>\n
the Consultative Assembly of the Concerned Northern Patriots (CACNP) have
\ncommended President Buhari on his anti-corruption fight and his quest to
\ncombat the spate of insecurity in the country.<\/p>\n
In a communique signed by Alhaji Muhammadu Gwaska, a former acting
\nchairman of Federal Character Commission (FCC), the elders scored
\nPresident Buhari high, saying under him, the Economic and Financial Crimes
\nCommission (EFCC) and other security agencies have been revitalized and
\nmade more credible.<\/p>\n
The communique reads in part, \u201cRecall also that President Muhammadu Buhari
\nhad pledged to eliminate corruption, provide security of life and property
\nof the citizenry throughout the country, as well as an undiluted resolve
\nto bring to an end the insurgency activities that had threatened the lives
\nand property of the people of the north east part of the country. You are
\nmindful also, of the President\u2019s determination to decisively tackle the
\nailing economy to bring to life with the ultimate aim of creating jobs to
\neliminate unemployment and poverty.”<\/p>\n
He said many Nigerians no doubt expected the President to hit the ground
\nrunning upon assumption of office but it became clear that President
\nBuhari had underestimated the rot that he found on the ground on
\nassumption of office.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cContrary to his expectations, the President met a virtually
\nempty treasury and found an unprecedented level of corruption in the
\npolitical and bureaucratic system that was beyond his imagination. This
\nsituation created some initial delays in his swift take off that was
\nnoticed in the establishment of various structures of government.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, it is fourteen months since President Buhari took over the mantle
\nof leadership of the federal republic of Nigeria. And government in the
\nareas of fighting corruption and economic management has greatly improved.
\nNigerians are beginning to realize that Buhari\u2019s emergence is the best
\nthing that has happened to this country since independence.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the war against corruption, the Economic and Financial Crimes
\nCommission (EFCC) and other security agencies have been revitalized and
\nmade more credible, and various cases of corruption are at various levels
\nof investigation or prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking on the issue of security, he said it is common knowledge that
\nBoko Haram has been degraded and dislodged in the various local
\ngovernments they had held in the north east. He said the sporadic bombings
\nthat were experienced in parts of the north east and some parts of North
\nWest and north central have stopped.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cas patriots who would want to see development and harmony in
\nthis country, we would implore president Buhari to continue to be the
\nlistening president that he is and look into genuine complaints from
\nmembers of his party and Nigerians in general in order to discourage
