President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his government is acutely aware<\/p>\n
of challenges of life facing the average citizen, and appealed to Muslim
\nreligious leaders to carry the message of hope to the people that things
\nwill improve.<\/p>\n
At a meeting with the Council of Abuja Imams at the State House on
\nThursday, the President requested religious leaders throughout the country
\n\u201cto keep calming the people. The leadership at various levels is trying
\nto solve problems of poverty, unemployment and insecurity bedeviling the
\ncountry.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Buhari said the government chose to give priority to agriculture
\nso as to create jobs for unemployed citizens and give the country food
\nsecurity. He said although efforts had begun, there was a bigger plan for
\nthe provision of fertilizers, insecticides and land preparations starting
\nnext year.<\/p>\n
To key into this, the President requested state governments and community
\nleaders across the country to organize the population into cooperative
\nsocieties, stressing that \u201cextension services, not money will be
\nprovided.\u201d<\/p>\n
The President also addressed the religious leaders on the efforts to
\nimprove power supply in the country with on-going efforts to bring
\nforeign investment from China and some friendly countries that indicated
\nwillingness in developing the proposed Mambila and other hydro-electric
\npower projects in the country.<\/p>\n
President Buhari assured that the steps the government was carefully
\ntaking on the crisis situation in the Niger Delta would lead to long term
\npeace and stabilize the region.<\/p>\n
On the war against corruption and the Boko Haram terrorism, the President
\nsaid his government would remain resolute and relentless. \u201cWe have no
\nplan to humiliate or embarrass anyone through these actions. We are
\nmerely interested in instituting justice and fairness for all\u201d, the
\nPresident assured.<\/p>\n
He reiterated that whoever was caught as having stolen from the public
\nwill be forced to return the loot to the treasury. The nation needs the
\nmoney.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Chairman of Abuja Council of Imams, Dr. Tajudeen Mohammed
\nBello Adigun on behalf of the delegation commended the efforts of the
\nBuhari administration in the war against corruption and terrorism.<\/p>\n
He also drew the President\u2019s attention to problems in the economy, health
