Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has raised concern over likely influx of
\nbandits and cattle rustlers who he said may be taking positions in Sokoto
\nfollowing their dislodgment from neighbouring Zamfara and Kebbi states by
\nthe Nigerian Army.
\nSpeaking in Sokoto Wednesday when he hosted both the newly-posted Assistant
\nInspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 10, and the state
\nCommissioner of Police, Yakubu Usman and Abdulkadir Muhammed respectively,
\nTambuwal urged the security chiefs to double surveillance activities
\nespecially in border local government areas.
\n\u201cAs you are aware, the massive operation embarked upon by the Nigerian Army
\nin our neighbouring states is achieving success. Many of those bandits have
\nbeen killed in action or arrested, but many have ran away, and we suspect
\nthat their first port of call would be towns and villages neighbouring the
\nconflict areas.
\n\u201cWe appeal to you, and sister-security agencies, to double surveillance in
\nsuch areas and ensure that lives and property and adequately protected.
\nSokoto is one of the most peaceful states, if not the most peaceful in the
\ncountry, so we encourage you to sustain that peace for the benefit of the
\npeople\u201d Tambuwal said when CP Muhammed visted.
\nEarlier when he hosted the AIG, Tambuwal said the three states which make
\nup Zone 10 have resolved to fully support Federal Government\u2019s efforts to
\nenhance security and tackle corruption in the country.
\n\u201cSokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states are fully behind President Muhammadu
\nBuhari\u2019s drive to rid our country of insecurity and corruption. We will
\nwork together to ensure your success in this Zone. We will expand our areas
\nof cooperation to ensure desired targets are met,\u201d he added.
\nTambuwal urged the AIG to make proper use of expertise of traditional
\ninstitutions in areas of surveillance and movement of unknown persons in
\nlocal communities.
\nHe promised to support all security agencies serving in the state to enable
