National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief Odigie John
\nOyegun has said his party was unaware of how bad things were in Nigeria
\nduring the campaign.<\/p>\n
Speaking at an event to mark his birthday, Oyegun said the steps so far
\ntaken by President Mohammadu Buhari will ensure this is the last time
\nNigeria faces economic hardship.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cIt has been tough times for the nation. When we were campaigning
\n\u2013 it is necessary to continue to hammer on this point \u2013 we were not in
\ngovernment; we knew things were very bad but we did not know they were as
\nbad as we eventually found them. And the revelations that come out every
\nday continue to buttress that fact.<\/p>\n
\u201cSecondly, and that is very important: nobody ever expected the prices of
\ncrude to collapse in the way they have done. One can only repeat what Mr.
\nPresident (Muhammadu Buhari) said a few days ago and that is, from being a
\nnation that could have an Excess Crude Account, today, because of the
\ncollapse of the prices of crude, a lot of the states in this country do
\nnot even have enough resources to meet their very basic functions and
\nresponsibilities to their citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Odigie-Oyegun further said with Buhari\u2019s efforts and plans, this would be
\nthe last economic crisis the country would face.<\/p>\n
He said the President was laying \u201ca solid foundation\u201d for the country such
\nthat all the mineral resources would be harnessed and the Nigeria of
\ntomorrow would be one that produces.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are going through hard times, temporarily, but it is quite clear that
\nthe silver lining is there in the cloud because the President and your
\nparty are determined that this nation will no longer be again a
