The Lagos Sate Chapter of the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday
\nurged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to put in place measures to
\nprevent courts from delivering conflicting judgments.<\/p>\n
Chief Ola Apena, the Deputy State Chairman of PDP, told the News Agency of
\nNigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the recent court orders on the party\u2019s
\nconvention by Federal High Courts in Abuja and Port Harcourt were
\nconflicting and absurd.<\/p>\n
The national convention scheduled to hold on Aug. 17 was stopped by an
\nAbuja Federal High Court.<\/p>\n
However, a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, specifically
\nordered the PDP to proceed with the convention as scheduled without
\nhindrance.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur position is that some of these court houses make themselves a willing
\ntool in the hands of some of these people who are fast in purchasing black
\nmarket injunction and all the rest.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, if the judiciary will not put its house in order, then they would
\nwant to make themselves a subject of ridicule.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf two courts of coordinate jurisdiction give contradicting judgments
\nthen, you are giving the litigant the freedom to choose which one suits
\nhim.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was expecting that some internal mechanism to prevent what happened
\nyesterday could have been done.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe that the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court can consolidate
\nall cases involving the party in one particular court; but, what is
\nhappening is just putting the judiciary to a kind of ridicule.\u201d<\/p>\n
He argued that with the two contradicting judgments, the Makarfi faction
\nwill flow with the Port Harcourt judgment while those who believe in
\nSheriff would want to hang on to the Abuja judgment.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, none of us have bridged any law. We are all obeying the court order
\nbecause the court in Abuja is not superior to that in Port Harcourt the
