Ekiti State Governor. Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said the ruling All
\nProgressives Congress (APC) wants the\u200e Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
\ndead because the APC does not want a virile opposition to challenge
\nits obnoxious policies and inability to tackle the problems
\nconfronting the country.
\nSpeaking in Port Harcourt on Wednesday on the sideline of the national
\nconvention of the PDP, Fayose said such a development would not,
\nhowever, be in the interest of the country and Nigerians at large.
\nIn a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu
\nAdelusi, the governor was quoted as saying that a virile opposition
\nwas a vital ingredient for democracy and necessary to make democracy
\nthrive.
\nFayose, who could not attend the convention owing to the blockade of
\nthe road leading to the Old Presidential Lodge of the Rivers State
\ngovernment house where he was accommodated, said the condoning off of
\nthe Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt by the police on the orders of the
\nInspector General of Police, had the input of the APC-led Federal
\nGovernment, saying the police only acted the script written by the
\nAPC-led government.
\n“I witnessed what the police did early today in Port Harcourt, it is
\nmost unfortunate. It has shown that we are indeed in a perilous time
\nin the country. The APC is desperate to kill opposition and silence
\nothers\u200e because they are afraid that their inability to properly
\ngovern the country and tackle the challenges facing us as a nation
\nwould be exposed by a virile PDP.
\n“The Buhari government is dictatorial. There is tension everywhere.\u200e
\nAll sectors are down and they are focusing on killing the opposition.\u200e
\nWhat business has APC with PDP internal matters?
\n“If they said they wanted to act on court orders, why didn’t they act
\non more than four orders that were in favour of the Markafi group?\u200e
\nThey don’t have answers to the terrible situations in the country but
\nthey know that an organised PDP will be embloden to challenge them,”
\nhe said.
\nThe governor wondered what would have happened if the PDP acted like
\nthe APC and refused to hand over to the APC last year.
\nFayose said it was unfortunate that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff had
\nturned himself to an instrument in the hands of APC leaders to
\ndestablise the PDP.
\nHe appealed to PDP members from across the country who came to the
\nconvention not to feel discouraged, saying the truth would prevail in
