The Federal Government says it will deepen its partnership with the
\nIslamic Development Bank (IDB) to fund critical projects in health, water
\nand the infrastructure sector.<\/p>\n
This is contained in a statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu, the
\nPresident\u2019s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on
\nMonday. Buhari stated this when he received, Dr Ali Madani, the President
\nof the IDB Group at the State House, Abuja.<\/p>\n
The president commended the bank for supporting several developmental
\nprojects across the country.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged that the bank had funded several people-oriented projects
\nin Osun, Kaduna, Jigawa, Niger, Katsina, Kano and Ebonyi states,
\ndemonstrating its \u201csoft spot and robust support\u2019\u2019 for Nigeria.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018We cannot thank you enough for the height you have achieved for the bank
\nin 41 years. \u201cNow that you are about to retire, we thank you for the
\nquality leadership which the world has recognised,\u2019\u2019 the president said.<\/p>\n
Buhari also expressed appreciation to the IDB Group and other countries
\nfor extending their assistance to Internally Displaced Persons in the
\nNorth-East.<\/p>\n
He assured the visiting IDB chief that Nigeria, a major financier of the
\nbank, would meet all its obligations to the development institution within
\nthe shortest time possible. Buhari highlighted efforts of the current
\nadministration at diversifying the economy with emphasis on agriculture.<\/p>\n
He expressed strong optimism that Nigeria would achieve self-sufficiency
\nin rice and sugar; and export both commodities in the next three years.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Madani congratulated Buhari on the positive outcomes of
\nthe war against corruption and terrorism.<\/p>\n
According to him, the bank is ready to mobilise resources from Arab fund
\nfor developmental initiatives of the Nigerian government and the private
