Ebonyi State Government has pledged to pay compensation to those who lost
\ntheir loved ones\u00a0 and owners of properties destroyed during the Ezillo and
\nEzza-Ezillo communal crises in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
\nGovernor David Umahi announced this on Tuesday while receiving\u00a0 the report
\nof\u00a0 a review committee\u00a0 on the matter headed by the Deputy
\ngovernor,Dr.Kelechi Igwe at\u00a0 the Government House,Abakaliki.
\n“We are going to find a way to assist those who lost their loved ones .
\nSome of the people lost their\u00a0 properties and we are not happy about this.
\nSo we are on top negotiation with them on the best approach to
\nrehabilitate them, compensate them and reunite with them as our brothers
\nand sisters,” the governor\u00a0 said.<\/p>\n
Umahi, who was full of gratitude to the review committee for\u00a0 ensuring
\nthat peace\u00a0 returned to the area, assured that the state Executive Council
\nwould deliberate on the report and come up with a White Paper.
\nThe governor, according to a statement on Wednesday by his\u00a0 Chief Press
\nSecretary, Emma Anya,\u00a0 underscored the importance of peace in any given
\nsociety,stressing that without it (peace),there would be no development.<\/p>\n
He said, “There can be no development in\u00a0 an atmosphere of rancour and
\nbitterness,suspicion and anger. One of the virtues of a Christian is the
\nability to forgive. If you can’t forgive honestly, I cant take you
\nseriously as a Christian,whether you are a minister or not.
\n” You can only develop by the reason of the\u00a0 peace you seek. You can only
\nprosper by the reason of the love you\u00a0\u00a0 share with one another. We are one
\npeople,one destiny,the same God.”
\nUmahi\u00a0 requested that 50 dedicated Ezillo people and 50\u00a0 Ezza-Ezillo
\npeople would meet with\u00a0 the government to sign a\u00a0 peace agreement which
\nwould\u00a0 be sent to House of Assembly to ensure the return of lasting peace
\nin the area.<\/p>\n
The governor\u00a0 thanked the two warring\u00a0 communities for showing
\nunderstanding to embrace peace,stating that an implementation committee to
\nbe\u00a0 headed by Rev.Father Abraham Nwali, would be set up to commence
\nimmediate rehabilitation of people affected by the crisis.<\/p>\n
He announced that 500 hectares of land had been mapped out from the waring
\nzones for the citing of social amenities.
\nEarlier,\u00a0\u00a0 the Deputy Governor,Dr. Igwe,had explained that the report of
\nthe 10-man committee, earlier presented to the state Executive Council,was
\nunanimously adopted by the review committee.<\/p>\n
Igwe said it was gratifying that the people of the communities showed
\nunderstanding with the committee\u00a0 by making concessions, including
