Following economic hardship and poor governance, Senator Dino Melaye,<\/p>\n
senator representing Kogi west, has said he fears being stoned by his
\nconstituents for luring them to support President Mohammadu Buhari and the
\nAll Progressive Congress, APC.<\/p>\n
The Kogi born Senator who wants President Buhari to shake up his cabinet,
\nrecommending the dismissal of three top government officials, said the
\n“body language” of Buhari no longer effective.
\nHe said the \u201cwidely-acclaimed magical body language\u201d of Buhari has lost
\nits efficacy, lamenting the hardship across the land.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe president must immediately transit from mere rhetoric to drastic but
\npositive action to save the economy and Nigeria from total collapse. The
\nhunger in the land is real, pervasive, widespread and debilitating for the
\npoor masses,\u201d Melaye said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was a permanent fixture at the All Progressive Congress (APC\u2019s)
\nPresidential campaign rallies and events, functioning mostly as the Master
\nof Ceremonies (MC). I am a proud APC Member, a party bonafide with a great
\nstake in the success or failure of this administration, so no one can
\naccuse me of sour grapes or meddlesomeness.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I walk the streets of my constituency these days, I constantly harbor
\na foreboding that I could be stoned by my angry constituents for the
\nfailure of Mr President to fulfill his campaign promises and expectations
\nto Nigerians.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigeria is tottering on a dangerous precipice, sliding perilously to a
\ncertain catastrophe if the current economic malaise is not halted
\nimmediately.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said those to \u201cface the axe immediately\u201d if the economy must be
\neffectively rebooted to deliver on the change agenda of the current
\nadministration are Kemi Adeosun; minister of finance, Udo Udoma, minister
\nof budget and national planning; and Godwin Emefiele, governor of Central
\nBank of Nigeria (CBN).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe finance minister has not only displayed gross incompetence on the
\njob, she also lacks the basic and rudimentary grasp of economic
\nfundamentals necessary to run a critical sector of the Nigerian economy
\nlike the finance ministry. It is time for her to go now and pave way for a
\nqualified and experienced person to steer the Nigerian economy away from
\nthe dark woods it has sunk presently under her stewardship,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be sure, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma is a very charismatic man, an
\naccomplished lawyer, and a quintessential gentleman with a fairly
\nuntainted reputation. In everyday parlance, he is a good man. But the
\ncritical job of budget and national planning minister for a huge country
\nlike Nigeria, with her prevailing economic challenges requires much more
\nthan being a good man with a great personality.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a lawyer, accomplished in this field as he is, Udoma\u2019s appointment to
\nthat position is nepotism taken to very ridiculous heights; and a classic
\ncase of putting round pegs in square holes-it will, and can never fit. It
\nis akin to saddling a carpenter with a tailor\u2019s responsibility. The
\noutcome under the circumstances, as has become evidently clear, is bound
\nto be catastrophic for the economy. President Buhari must therefore do the
\nneedful now by relieving Udoma of this huge burden that is constituting a
\nclog to the revival of the Nigerian economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
He accused the CBN governor of \u201cpolicy flip-flops, summersaults and
\ninconsistencies as clear evidence of gross incompetence in the management
\nof the nation\u2019s fiscal and monetary policies\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe net effect of this inconceivable ineptitude on the part of Emefiele
\nis the free fall in the value of the naira and the total loss of faith and
\nconfidence by the international community on the Nigerian economy,\u201d he
