The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the administration of former<\/p>\n
President Goodluck Jonathan saw recession coming and had plans to tackle
\nit, but some members of the party who are now in the All Progressives
\nCongress (APC), frustrated it.<\/p>\n
Dayo Adeyeye, spokesman of the PDP caretaker committee, said this in a
\nstatement, while responding to the allegations that Jonathan turned \u201ca
\nblind eye\u201d to the economic crisis, which started manifesting under him.<\/p>\n
Mohammed Baduru, governor of Jigawa state, made the claim.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe make bold to tell governor Badaru that Jonathan and the Peoples
\nDemocratic Party government saw this coming since 2011, and wanted to
\nderegulate the sale of hydrocarbons in 2012, but Badaru and his
\nco-travellers who are now in the All Progressives Congress (APC)
\nfrustrated the effort,\u201d Adeyeye said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe former administration also wanted to encourage more savings in the
\nExcess Crude Account (ECA) and set up the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) but
\nthe Badarus of this world who play politics with serious national issues
\nand were state governors at the time took the federal government to court
\nand did everything to frustrate the effort.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank God some of them are among the \u2018best brains\u2019 in the APC federal
\ngovernment of today.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement added that the \u201cceaseless blame\u201d put on the Jonathan
\nadministration would not take the country anywhere.<\/p>\n
Adeyeye challenged \u201cBadaru and those who still think like him\u201d to tell
\nNigerians the efforts made to resolve the economic crisis.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis economic management policy of unhealthy propaganda and blaming the
\nprevious administration ceaselessly, will not take us anywhere,\u201d he said<\/p>\n
\u201cThe likes of the governor were busy de-marketing Nigeria all over the
\nworld when the Jonathan administration was trying to woo investors.<\/p>\n
\u201cDid he ever wonder why despite the signals towards end of 2013 to 2014,
\nas rightly identified by the governor to be the beginning of hard times,
\nthe economy remained stable with single digit inflation during those
\nperiods,\u201d Adeyeye asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet gov. Badaru be reminded that it was because of the milestones
\nrecorded in the local production of rice and other staple food that
\nensured robust local supply and remarkable progression which limited the
\ndemand for scarce foreign exchange needed for importation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn view of the above submissions, it is clear that the current economic
\nrecession in the country was not caused by previous PDP\u2019s administration
\nor leaders but due to the poor management of Nigeria\u2019s economy, lack of
\nvision and incompetence of the present APC\u2019s led federal government that
\ndrove Nigerians into this avoidable life threatening quagmire.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that the visit of Mark Zukerberg to Nigeria would not have
\nhappened if Jonathan had not set up the two ICT incubation centres in
