The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has shutdown it\u2019s former Twitter handle<\/p>\n
@Pdpnigeria and relaunched a new handle @officialpdpnig, saying it has no
\nposition as director of new media.<\/p>\n
The party in a statement signed by head, publicity division for the
\nnational publicity secretary, Adm. Chinwe I. Nnorom, said the decision was
\ntaken to stop further unauthorized tweets.<\/p>\n
It would be recalled that one Prince Deji Adeyanju, as director new media,
\nhas issued statements on behalf of the party in the last one week
\nchallenging the APC-led government over its economic policies.
\nThe statement reads, \u201cI am directed by the Leadership of our great Party,
\nthe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by H. E. Senator Ahmed Mohammed
\nMakarfi, CON, to announce the immediate closure of the Party\u2019s Official
\nTwitter Handle, @pdpnigeria and re-launch of another handle for effective
\nuse and control. The New Handle is @officialpdpnig henceforth.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis decision has once again become necessary due to the frequent
\nunauthorized, and most times embarrassing tweets that emanate from the
\nHandle tweeted by the Handlers claiming to represent the PDP. You will
\nrecall that the Party had in the past, announced the Shutdown of the
\nHandle on two occasions when hackers manipulated it to embarrass the
\nParty.<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing these developments, the Party hereby informs all its members,
\nsupporters, friends, the Media and general public to ignore and disregard
\nany tweet from the Handle @pdpnigeria forthwith.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn view of the above, the Party has immediately re-launched a new
\nHandle,@officialpdpnig to form part of the Social Media Platform of our
\ngreat Party for ease of communication, administration and control.\u201d<\/p>\n
The PDP further said, in addition, the leadership has also frowned at the
\nincessant and unauthorized statements that are being issued by some Party
\nmembers purported to have spoken for and on behalf of the Party, the
\nPeoples Democratic Party (PDP). For the record, you may recall that the
\nNational Publicity Secretary on June 17, 2015 issued a Statement Titled:
\n\u201cPDP Disown group over unauthorized statements on Buhari\u201d; and urged
\nmembers nationwide to desist from making official statement(s) on behalf
\nof the Party without authorization.<\/p>\n
On the position of the director, new media, the statement said, \u201cAlso,
\nthe PDP hereby states unequivocally that the position of Director of New
\nMedia is non-existent and alien to the PDP Establishment Manual, and has
\nnot appointed Prince Deji Adeyanju as the PDP Director of New Media.For
\nemphasis, Social (new) Media is one of the Units in the Publicity Division
\nof the Party and not a separate directorate, division or unit.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor clarification, the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye
\nis currently the Chief Spokesman and Image-maker of our Party in line with
\nthe PDP Constitution. Consequently, nobody is allowed to issue official
\nstatement or speak for and on behalf of the Party except authorized by the
\nParty hierarchy to do so. The Leadership warns that it will not hesitate
\nto take disciplinary measures accordingly against any member that flouts
\nthis directive.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, the Leadership welcome members and supporters who may wish to
\nspeak in their official or personal capacities to do so,but in tune with
\nthe Party\u2019s rules of engagement and interest on the subject matter under
\ndiscourse to avoid speaking at variance with the Party.<\/p>\n
\u201cFinally, the Party calls on all our members nationwide to unite and work
\ntogether with the National Caretaker Committee in their quest to achieve
\nharmony, rebrand, rebuild and revitalize the vision, mission and ideals of
