The wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan,
\nhas urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to lift the
\nrestriction on her $15m accounts, which was frozen in four companies\u2019
\naccounts by the anti-graft agency, saying the money are for her medical
\nbills.<\/p>\n
She claimed that she uses the account to settle medical bills outside the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
Patience disclosed this in a letter (reference number GA\/Abibo\/00226\/2016)
\nwritten by her lawyers, Granville Abibo (SAN) and Co, which was addressed
\nto the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.<\/p>\n
The letter read in part, \u201cIt is noteworthy to emphasise that the said
\naccounts, which were in US dollar denomination, were card-based accounts
\nand our client is the sole signatory to these accounts.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, our client has been operating the said accounts using the cards
\nfor her medical bill payments and purchases for her private purposes
\nwithout any let or hindrance.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur client was therefore surprised when the said cards stop functioning
\non July 7, 2016, or thereabout. Our client immediately, thereupon,
\ncontacted Skye Bank Plc through our solicitors.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018It was only then that the bank officials informed our client that the
\nsaid accounts were placed on a \u2018No Debit Order\u2019 following investigations
\nand instruction from your commission and this is without notice to our
\nclient by either the bank or the commission.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is in the light of the foregoing that we urge you to use your good
\noffices to vacate the \u2018No Debit\/Freezing Order\u2019 placed on the said
\naccounts.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite the foregoing, our client, who is a law-abiding citizen, has
\nwatched with surprise how efforts are being made surreptitiously to
\nindirectly harass or harangue her and short-change her of her personal
\nfunds in breach of her fundamental human rights.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge you sir, to kindly intervene to stop the untoward and wrongful
\nactions of your officials to embarrass, inconvenience and short-change our
