WASHINGTON, D.C.\u2014The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in a show of further
\ncommitment to collaboration by the business communities in the United
\nStates and across Africa, today named Aliko Dangote, Africa\u2019s most
\nsuccessful businessman, as the co-chair of its U.S.-Africa Business
\nCenter.<\/p>\n
Dangote will serve alongside Jay Ireland, president and CEO of GE Africa,
\nas a leader for the U.S.-Africa Business Center Board of Directors.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are honored to have Aliko Dangote on board to help guide the business
\ncommunities\u2019 efforts in pursuit of a new era of unprecedented growth
\nbetween the United States and Africa,\u201d said Scott Eisner, president of the
\nU.S.-Africa Business Center. \u201cThe future of job creation lies in the
\nhearts and minds of business leaders and their enterprises across Africa.
\nWe are fortunate to have an opportunity to tap into the expertise of
\nDangote and our board to ensure that U.S. companies have strong partners
\nacross Africa and can provide access to African companies interested in
\nthe U.S. market.\u201d<\/p>\n
One of Africa\u2019s leading industrialists, Dangote is a member of several
\nnational and foreign organizations where he devotes his resources to
\ncontribute to the growth and development of African society. In October
\n2013, he was named by Forbes as the Most Powerful Man in Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cTaking on this role with the U.S. Chamber sends a clear message across
\nAfrica:\u00a0 American companies no longer see Africa as a stepping stone to
\nglobal trade, but rather, as the future of trade,\u201d said Dangote. \u201cAfrica
\nhas emerged as one of the most promising growth regions in the world
\nthanks to its vast array of industries, natural resources, and services.
\nContinued and sustainable growth lies in the ability to improve regional
\nintegration, which will, in turn, help create a business environment that
\nis more attractive to international investors.<\/p>\n

\nU.S.-Africa Business Center will serve as the apex organization to promote
\ntrade and investment between the United States and the vibrant economies

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world\u2019s largest business federation
\nrepresenting the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes,
\nsectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry
\nassociations. Its International Affairs division includes more than 70
