The U.S Secretary of commerce, Penny Pritzker on Wednesday in New York,<\/p>\n
eulogized Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Mr Tony Elumelu, saying his
\nleadership is indispensable in the U.S support for Africa.<\/p>\n
Pritzker who described Elumelu as an \u201cextraordinary partner\u201d said the
\nformer Managing Director of UBA has been in the forefront in promoting and
\nstrengthening business relations between Africa-United States.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Business Council For International Understanding, BCIU,
\nreception honouring Africa-U.S Business Leaders on the side-lines of the
\nU.N General Assembly Meeting, the U.S Chief commercial advocate, said
\nthat Mr Elumelu is an exemplary entrepreneur.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis leadership is indispensable in our support for Africa and he has been
\nan extraordinary partner,\u201d Pritzker said.<\/p>\n
Pritzker, also lauded the BCIU for their roles and successes in building
\nbusiness partnerships between the continent and the United States. Milling
\naround him were hundreds of business leaders from the U.S and Africa,
\nincluding members of the U.S Congress, senior Obama administration
\nofficials, BCIU members including CEO’s of KPMG, AAR, Accenture, VISA,
\nBOEING, CONOCO PHILIPS, APR, UBA and many more.<\/p>\n
The event was also attended by former president Olusegun Obasanjo,
\nbusiness leaders from Nigeria, wife of the Senate President Toyin Saraki,
\nOlusegun Awolowo, boss of the Nigerian export promotion council, NEPC.<\/p>\n
Elumelu, was earlier honoured with the \u2018Person of the Year\u2019 award at the
\nAfrica Investor CEO Institutional Investment Summit hosted alongside the
\nUN General Assembly in New York.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of Heirs Holdings who also coined the word ‘Africapitalism’
\nurged private and public sector stakeholders to work together in what he
\ndescribes as \u201cShared Purpose\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is critical for the public and private sectors to work together in
\n\u201cSHARED PURPOSE\u201d, which is a key tenet of Africapitalism \u2013 the economic
\nphilosophy I espouse which calls for the private sector to play a key role
\nin Africa\u2019s social and economic development by investing in strategic
