Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of<\/p>\n
State, Gen. Sani Abacha, on Thursday said he would rehabilitate victims of
\ninsurgency and communal clashes in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Al-Mustapha told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that such
\neffort was necessary to achieve sustainable peace.<\/p>\n
He said that the inauguration of APUDI Institute for Peace Studies and
\nSocial Rehabilitation (APIS) was part of his contribution to peace
\nbuilding and enhancement in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
NAN reports that APIS is a training, consulting, research, re-orientation
\nand rehabilitation centre of Al-Mustapha Peace, Unity and Development
\nInitiative (APUDI).<\/p>\n
It also reports that Al-Mustapha recently inaugurated the APIS-University
\nof Abuja Study Centre, in Abuja to give Nigerians the opportunity to
\nacquire knowledge on peacebuilding and national development.<\/p>\n
Al-Mustapha said apart from APIS, he had established many outfits that
\norganised skills acquisition programme for women, widows and orphans to
\nget certificates and token to establish themselves.<\/p>\n
\u201c When I regained my freedom in 2013, I found it necessary to re-link with
\nmany parts of Nigeria for obvious reasons.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was in that process that I was able to see in many communities the
\nvictims of insurgency, victims of communal clashes unattended to, and our
\nyouths without education.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, we began to unite and then to see that we did something on our own;
\nmany patriotic friends of mine came along, and we joined hands together to
\ncreate a non-governmental organisation (NGO).<\/p>\n
\u201c We have been doing this silently, but the time has come to inaugurate an
\neducational institution for our population in enhancing peace education,
\npeace sustenance, peace building and bridge building,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Al-Mustapha said that APIS was partnering many organisations and agencies
\nin Nigeria and overseas to offer courses that were not in the nation\u2019s
\nuniversities\u2019 curriculum at a cheap rate.<\/p>\n
He said that the institute was affiliated and accredited with other
\nprofessional and research bodies, both locally and internationally.<\/p>\n
According to him, these include the CGS International, Center for
\nInternational Private Enterprise (CIPE) Washington D.C, University of
\nNICOSA Cyprus, University of Abuja and United Nation Institute for
\nDisarmament and research (UNIDIR).<\/p>\n
NAN reports that in 2014, the institute developed a robust training manual
\nfor peace building in Nigeria including that of disarmament and control of
\nlight and small arms.<\/p>\n
The manual was officially unveiled during the first International
\nconference on \u201cCommunity conflicts and youth militancy in Northern Nigeria
\nand the challenge of Democratic practice in Nigeria\u201d.<\/p>\n
It was organised by APUDI from Nov. 4 to 6, 2014 at the Shehu Yar\u2019Adua
\nCentre, Abuja.<\/p>\n
The manual has been in use for peace building amongst various communities
