Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson has urged people of the
\nstate to sink their political differences and work together for the common
\ngood of the state.<\/p>\n
He threw the challenged\u00a0at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in
\nYenagoa,\u00a0on Sunday during an interdenominational thanksgiving service in
\ncommemoration of the 56th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria and the 20th
\nanniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State.<\/p>\n
Dickson, represented by his Deputy, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah,
\n(retd), said that although the state was yet to fully realise the
\nyearnings and aspirations of its founding fathers, more could be achieved,
\nif Bayelsans pool their resources together for the development of the
\nstate.<\/p>\n
He urged Bayelsans to develop themselves intellectually and through other
\nlegitimate means, especially through agriculture, to remain relevant in
\nthe nation’s scheme of things, rather than depend on the government for
\nall their needs.<\/p>\n
According to the Governor, the restoration government would do everything
\nwithin its reach to drive the infrastructural and human capital
\ndevelopment of the state, through the formulation and implementation of
\nappropriate policies and programmes, despite the challenge of dwindling
\nresources.<\/p>\n
The Governor commended the Armed Forces for all their sacrifices, in
\ndefending the territorial integrity and unity of the nation and urged
\nNigerians to keep hope alive in the face of the biting economic recession.<\/p>\n
He also appreciated the efforts of security agencies towards the
\nmaintenance of peace, law and order in the state, and expressed his
\nadministration’s determination to give necessary support to ensure the
\nsafety of lives and property.<\/p>\n
Delivering a sermon entitled: “Self-Industrialisation from a Religious
\nPerspective”,\u00a0Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters,\u00a0Pastor
\nSamuel John-Peters admonished Bayelsans to harness their innate potentials
\nby working hard, stressing that, God has blessed every human being with
\nwhat is required to live a fulfilled life, without depending completely on
\nothers.<\/p>\n
