The Nigerian Senate, Tuesday rejected the calls for the sale of the
\ncountry\u2019s national assets.<\/p>\n
On its social media handle, the Senate said it \u201crejected prayer 3 of the
\nrecommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee which sought for the sale of
\nNational Assets to shore up Foreign Reserve\u201d.<\/p>\n
This was during the proceeding of Senate Plenary for Tuesday 27th of
\nSeptember 2016.\u201d<\/p>\n
Senate Leader, Ali Ndume stood vehemently against the sale of the assets
\neven as other senators backed him. \u201cThe senate oppose sale of National
\nAssets to shore up Foreign Reserves\u201d<\/p>\n
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, had last week in his address to
\nlawmakers recommended that the executive should raise capital from the
\nsale of the nation\u2019s assets and other sources to shore up reserves.<\/p>\n
He said the sale of assets would calm investors, discourage currency
\nspeculation and stabilise the economy that is in recession.<\/p>\n
However, lawmakers are strongly opposed to this recommendation.<\/p>\n
The lawmakers also approved a recommendation that the National Assembly
\nshould amend Section 162 of the Constitution to give legal backing to the
