Kogi Deputy Gov., Mr Yomi Awoniyi, on Tuesday urged flood displaced persons in the state to cooperate with government to ensure that its intention of mitigating their sufferings was not jeopardised.<\/p>\n
Awoniyi, in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr Michael Abu, in Lokoja, made the appeal in Ajaokuta during a fact finding and assessment tour of displaced persons’ camps.<\/p>\n
He said that the visit was to determine claims by such persons and ascertain some complaints over their welfare.<\/p>\n
Awoniyi said that government was doing a lot to make them comfortable and expressed concern that some of the victims connived with some elements to sabotage the efforts.<\/p>\n
He said that government could only succeed if those displaced worked with officials to fish out the saboteurs.<\/p>\n
He urged the victims to also show gratitude by making genuine claims over the efforts put in place by government.<\/p>\n
Awoniyi warned the persons against portraying the activities of the Relief Management Committee in bad light.<\/p>\n
He gave the assurance that government’s intentions were geared toward their well-being and genuine rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Mrs Alice Ogedengbe, acting Secretary of the state Emergency Management Agency, said it was aware that most of the challenges faced by officials were caused by insincerity of some displaced persons.<\/p>\n
