Despite acts of destabilisation orchestrated by members of the opposition
\nparty,\u00a0Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, said\u00a0he would remain
\nfocused on addressing the basic challenges, particularly in the areas of
\neducation, security and critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n
He gave the assurance on the sidelines of the Independence celebrations in
\nYenagoa, where he also decried the activities of some political actors in
\nthe state to discredit his administration for selfish reasons.<\/p>\n
Dickson cited instances, where such politicians “collude with detractors
\nto de-market Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta” by sponsoring criminal
\nactivities to undermine the prevailing peace and security which, he said,
\nhis administration worked hard to achieve in the past four years.<\/p>\n
While expressing his determination to safeguard lives and property,
\nagainst all odds by sustaining the existing collaboration amongst the
\nstate government, security agencies and the people, the Governor stressed
\nthat the security outfit of the State, \u2018Operation Doo Akpo\u2019,\u00a0would
\nbe\u00a0strengthened to function optimally.<\/p>\n
Dickson highlighted some of his achievements in office, adding the
\ninternational cargo airport, which is a brainchild of the Restoration
\nGovernment is 80 per cent completion, while the new Governor\u2019s Office is
\nready for commissioning.<\/p>\n
He also stressed that Julius Berger Plc, the contractor handling the Isaac
\nBoro Expressway, would be re-mobilised to site for its completion to ease
\ntransportation within the state capital.<\/p>\n
The governor also listed the reforms in the public sector and the paradigm
\nshift in the governance culture, as part of his novel contributions to the
\ngrowth of the state and called on the people to key into the vision of the
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
While thanking Bayelsans for their support, Dickson also gave kudos to the
\nfounding fathers and leaders of the State for their various contributions
\nand sacrifices towards making the creation of Bayelsa a reality.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors, stressing that
\nalthough the Bayelsa State had yet to attain the desired height in terms
\nof development, it has witnessed significant progress within its 20 years
\nof existence, considering the level of under-development it suffered
