Aisha, the wife of Nigeria\u2019s President Muhammadu Buhari has said she may
\nnot back her husband\u2019s re-election in 2019 unless he shakes up his
\ncabinet.
\nIn an interview with the BBC, Mrs. Buhari said the president \u201cdoes not
\nknow\u201d most of the top officials he appointed to office.<\/p>\n

Mr. Buhari has not indicated whether or not he will seek re-election, and
\naccording to his wife, he has not told his family too.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is yet to tell me (if he\u2019ll seek re-election) but I have decided as
\nhis wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out
\nand campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will
\nnever do it again,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The Nigerian leader is allowed by the constitution to seek re-election for
\na second term in office. Should he seek re-election, he is expected to be
\nthe candidate to beat for his All Progressives Congress, APC, party;
\nalthough he could be challenged by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar
\nwho lost to him in the 2014 primaries.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Buhari also gave an indication of something which has caused silent
\nanger amongst some leaders of the APC.<\/p>\n

She said some of the president\u2019s appointees did not share the vision of
\nhis party and were appointed because of the influence of a \u201cfew people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for
\nthem to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position,\u201d
\nshe said.<\/p>\n

Asked to name those who had hijacked the government, she refused, saying:
\n\u201cYou will know them if you watch television.\u201d<\/p>\n

One name that has been repeatedly mentioned as having a strong influence
\nin Mr. Buhari\u2019s appointments is his cousin, Mamman Daura.<\/p>\n

Mr. Daura, who holds no official position, is said to be the most powerful
\nman in the presidency and is said to have Mr. Buhari\u2019s ears.<\/p>\n

There had been rumours within the Aso Villa of him having clashes with
\nMrs. Buhari over his influence on the president.<\/p>\n

On whether the president was in charge of his administration, Mrs. Buhari
\nsaid: \u201cThat is left for the people to decide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mrs. Buhari\u2019s decision to go public with her concerns may shock many
\npeople, but it shows the level of discontent with the president\u2019s
\nleadership, the BBC quotes its reporter Naziru Mikailu, as saying Abuja.<\/p>\n

Speaking further on the appointments, Mrs. Buhari said, \u201cThe president
\ndoes not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I
\ndon\u2019t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also mentioned the improvement of security in the north-east as her
\nhusband\u2019s major achievement.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo-one is complaining about being attacked in their own homes. Thankfully
\neveryone can walk around freely, go to places of worship, etc. Even kids
\nin Maiduguri have returned to schools,\u201d Mrs. Buhari said.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
