The family of Mr Isiyaku Tanko of Warkaza community in Kudun Kankara Local
\nGovernment Area of Katsina State, Nigeria \u00a0has accused the Emir of
\nKatsina, home state of President Mohammadu Buhari of forcefully abducting
\nand marrying their 14 years daughter, Habiba Isiyaku, denying her of her
\nconstitutional rights<\/p>\n
Habiba was said to have been abducted on the 16th August, 2016 by an
\nofficial of Emir of Katsina and staff in the Palace, Jamilu Lawal.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, father of Habiba, Mr IsiyakuTanko who
\nspoke through his lawyer, Barr Yakubu Bawa decried the manner with which
\nhe was dealt with, in an attempt to secure his daughter.<\/p>\n
He also complained about the mishandling of the matter by both the
\nInspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Katsina State
\nCommissioner of Police, Usman Abdullahi.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the matter, Barr Bawa said: \u201cBecause she is under a guardian
\nand the control of her parents, now until she clocks 18 that\u2019s the age of
\nmaturity and accountability. The second point is that Habiba cannot be
\nforcefully converted to Islam by the Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness,
\nAlhaji AbdulMumin Kabiru usman.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has no right to do that. The third point to look at is the fact that
\nthe commissioner of Police; this was a helpless man, a vulnerable man that
\ncalled Stefanos Foundation to come to his aid to secure the release of his
\ndaughter.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd when the CP summoned the parties concerned in his office, what
\nbaffled me and my heart is still bleeding is the fact that ordinary
\nsecurity detail gave an instruction that Emir has instructed him that when
\nthe girl was brought to his office that he\u2019s under instruction to bring
\nback the girl to the of Palace of the Emir.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd yet the CP that who has the entire command under his control could
\nnot even take a position but unfortunately succumbed to the instruction of
\nan ordinary detail and release that girl back to the Palace.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe instructed the man to go the Palace the following day and receive his
\ndaughter. For me, with due respect, the CP has failed in his
\nconstitutional duties as enshrined in the Police Act.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn reaching the Emir Police, all that this man will be confronted with
\nwas for him to sit on the floor and the Emir demand to introduce the
\nmatter through his aide, the Kilishin Katsina to tell him that, come,
\nsince your daughter has converted, she came with Hijab. She couldn\u2019t look
\nat her mum and her father. He said since she has converted, there is a big
\nbarrier between you and your daughter now.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe man said if my daughter has converted to Islam, give me my daughter
\nto go and practice her newly found faith in my house. The Kilishin Katsina
\nsaid no, that it\u2019s not possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bawa stated \u201cthe Emir then said that the man has committed a crime, he was
\ncompelled under duress, in this statement, they forced the man to say that
\nthe complaint he made to the Police was not true. He left the palace
\nshattered, broken, helpless and emotional broken.<\/p>\n
\u201cHabiba is about clocking two months now in captivity\u201d Bawa described
\n\u201cthe abduction and procurement of a Christian minor, Habiba Isiyaku by
\nthe Emir of Katsina as vicious, barbaric, callous acts and atrocities done
\nto Christians not only in katsina but the entire north west of Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also speaking, an official of Stefanos Foundation, a non-governmental
\norganisation \u00a0(NGO), Mr Mark Lipdo decried the \u00a0pain the family have been
\ngoing through since the forceful abduction of their daughter.<\/p>\n
