{"id":53921,"date":"2016-10-17T18:22:14","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T17:22:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=53921"},"modified":"2016-10-17T18:22:14","modified_gmt":"2016-10-17T17:22:14","slug":"ex-nimasa-dg-stole-n1-5billion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/ex-nimasa-dg-stole-n1-5billion\/","title":{"rendered":"How Ex NIMASA DG Stole N1.5billion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr. Kanu Idagu, <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_148306615\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Monday<\/span><\/span> told a Federal High Court in Lagos how some<br \/>\ncommittees were set up at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety<br \/>\nAgency as conduit pipes to steal money running into billions of Naira.<\/p>\n<p>Idagu, an operative of EFCC, gave the evidence at the resumed trial of<br \/>\nPatrick Akpobolokemi, a former Director General of NIMASA, who is being<br \/>\ntried alongside nine others on a 40-count charge bordering on money<br \/>\nlaundering.<\/p>\n<p>Others charged with him are Capt. Bala Agaba, Ekene Nwakuche, Felix<br \/>\nBob-Nabena, Capt. Warredi Enisouh, Governor Juan, Ugo Frederick and Timi<br \/>\nAlari.<\/p>\n<p>Two companies \u2014 Al-kenzo Ltd. and Penniel Engineering Services Ltd are<br \/>\nalso facing trial.<\/p>\n<p>They all pleaded not guilty to the charge and were granted bail by the court.<\/p>\n<p>Led in evidence by the prosecutor, Mr. Festus Keyamo, the witness told the<br \/>\ncourt that as head of the EFCC Special Task Force, he was in charge of<br \/>\ninvestigations and carries out searches and arrests.<\/p>\n<p>He told the court that the commission received a petition in the last<br \/>\nquarter of 2015 about activities in NIMASA during the tenure of<br \/>\nAkpobolokemi as DG.<\/p>\n<p>He said that his team embarked on investigations and discovered that<br \/>\nNIMASA had set up various committees some of which were used to launder<br \/>\nmonies through companies and bureau de change.<\/p>\n<p>He said that specifically, a committee on intelligence was set up and<br \/>\nheaded by the second accused, with an Access bank account no. 0688939609<br \/>\nopened for the receipt of monies.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cBetween Dec. 20, 2013 and July 7, 2015, the committee received<br \/>\nmoney in tranches running into 1.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chairman of the committee raised several internal memos to the<br \/>\nDirector of Finance and Accounts, wherein it was claimed that the funds<br \/>\nwere to be used for intelligence-based security activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe companies used in furtherance of these activities were either owned<br \/>\nor nominated by NIMASA staff for their personal use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Idagu said one of such companies was Aler Integrated services Ltd. whose<br \/>\nalter ego was one Uche Obilor.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cAnother company is Kofa Fada Ltd., a bureau de change company<br \/>\nwhich the second accused instructed Obilor to transfer the sum of N10<br \/>\nmillion into.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sum of N2 million was also transferred into the account of one<br \/>\nAl-Kenzo Logistics, whose alter ego is the third accused, Ekene Nwakuche.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second accused also made a claim of a business contract between<br \/>\nNIMASA and one Kofa Fada Ltd., with the sum of N26 million transferred to<br \/>\nthe companies\u2019 account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the dollar equivalent was handed to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second accused also transferred the sum of N86 million to one<br \/>\nUsseinian Ltd., and the dollar equivalent transferred to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the witness, the third accused, Nwakuche who is the personal<br \/>\nassistant to the second accused, was asked to coordinate accounts for the<br \/>\npurpose of diverting money.<\/p>\n<p>He said the third accused formulated an Enterprise Bank account in the<br \/>\nname of Adams CDA Global Services, belonging to one of his friends.<\/p>\n<p>Idagu also claimed that the accused transferred into the account the sum<br \/>\nof N120 million, while the dollar equivalent was handed over to the second<br \/>\naccused.<\/p>\n<p>The witness said the third accused also nominated an access bank account<br \/>\nfor Gidoga Investment Ltd. with the sum of N65 million transferred into<br \/>\nsame account.<\/p>\n<p>Idagu said other accounts were opened in the names of companies such as<br \/>\nBallon and Associates, KXM procurement Ltd, FBA Nasbela and Co, Crescent<br \/>\nPillars and Co, as well as Penniel Engineering Services.<\/p>\n<p>He said that in all, a total of N422, 680 million was directly transferred<br \/>\nto the second accused, who claimed that same was remitted to the first<br \/>\naccused.<\/p>\n<p>After the witness\u2019 oral testimony, the prosecutor urged the court for an<br \/>\nadjournment to enable him to present documentary evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, Justice Saliu Saidu adjourned the case to Dec. 15 and Dec.<br \/>\n19 for continuation of trial.<\/p>\n<p>The accused were alleged to have committed the offences between December<br \/>\n2013 and July 2015 and converted over N3.4 billion belonging to NIMASA to<br \/>\npersonal uses.<\/p>\n<p>The offence contravened the provisions of Sections 15 (1),
