A top London-based newspaper, African Voice, has honoured a member of the
\nHouse of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, with African Voice Leadership
\nin Legislative Governance Awards 2016 for his commitment to legislative
\nduties and fight against corruption in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Mr. Jibrin was recently suspended by the House of Representatives for
\naccusing Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun, Chief Whip
\nAlhassan Doguwa, Minority Leader Leo Ogor and a few other members of
\nmonumental fraud in the 2016 budget.<\/p>\n
In a letter signed by the Publisher\/Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Mike
\nAbiola, the paper described Mr. Jibrin as a deserving recipient of the
\naward.<\/p>\n
“The African Voice Leadership in Governance Awards recognises African
\nleaders who have shown dedication to developing their State\/countries, by
\ndemonstrating exemplary leadership.”<\/p>\n
“The attention of the international community has been drawn to your
\ncommitment to the people of Nigeria and Kano State in particular. Your
\neffort in helping to eradicate corruption is commendable”<\/p>\n
“The 20th African Voice Newspaper Leadership in Legislative
\nGovernance Awards Investiture ceremony will take place on Saturday 5
\nNovember, 2016 and will be attended by Foreign
\n& Commonwealth Officials, African diplomats in the UK, British
\nPoliticians, Members of Parliament and influential business leaders”<\/p>\n
“The event has a dedicated followership of high net worth individuals
\nand the cr\u00e8me de cr\u00e8me of the British diverse community,” the letter added.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the award held at the Banqueting Venue, London on Saturday,
\nthe lawmaker thanked the newspaper for finding him worthy of the award.<\/p>\n
“Thank you African Voice Newspaper for this award. The award is a huge
\nmorale booster because it is coming at a very difficult and challenging
\nperiod. It’s a period I had to leave my post as Appropriation chairman of
\nthe House of Representatives, suspended through subterranean means by
\nSpeaker Yakubu Dogara and received several threats to my life by the highly
\nplaced public officials I accused of corruption.<\/p>\n
“My offence is disagreeing with some corrupt leaders of the House including
\nthe Speaker over the 2016 budget fraud and insisting that the right thing
\nmust be done,\u00a0 exposing individual and systemic corruption in the House and
\nrejecting immunity for Principal officers of the House.<\/p>\n
“Despite the difficulties I am going through, I will never be cowed to
\nsilence. I asure you I will never retreat from this worthy line of action.
\nI shall remain committed to the fight against corruption in the House of
\nRepresentatives and Nigeria as a whole.<\/p>\n
“I dedicate this award to millions of Nigerians home and abroad who are
\nsuffering today because of the massive theft of our common wealth, budget
\nfraud and monumental corruption in the House of Representatives which
\nassumed an unprecedented dimension under the leadership of Speaker Yakubu
