Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee on<\/p>\n
Anti-corruption, has lashed out at Supreme court Justices, Ngwuta and
\nOkoro, noting that the call by the justices for the minister of Transport,
\nMr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to step down is malicious and a calculated
\nattempt to smear the image of the Buhari-led government.<\/p>\n
Sagay who made this known in a statement titled, \u201cStatements credited to
\nJustices Ngwuta and Okoro of the supreme court about Mr. Chibuike Rotimi
\nAmaechi \u2013 Minister of Transport\u201d said he gave the opinion in his own
\ncapacity and not as the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on
\nAnti-corruption.<\/p>\n
the statuses of the justices, they should not have engaged in such a
\ndiversionary ploy to their own corrupt cases for which the DSS has raided
\ntheir places but should have rather focused on maintaining their dignity
\nand respect. \u201cTwo Justices of the Supreme Court affected by the DSS raids
\nof Saturday 8th October, 2016, have been quoted as stating that Hon.
\nMinister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi once attempted to
\ninduce them to favour the APC in an election petition.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis outburst by the two Justices is surprising, considering that it is
\ntotally unrelated to be raids of their premises, their arrest and
\nsubsequent charges before our Courts. Men of that status should not
\nindulge in such diversionary activities in the midst of grave and ominous
\ncharges facing them.\u201d \u201cI would have thought that they would use the time
\nat their disposal to prepare their defenses against the serious charges
\nthey are facing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIn any case, given their statuses as Supreme Court Justices, even in the
\nmiddle of the adversity confronting them, they should not have engaged in
\na distraction totally incompatible with the dignity and respect that their
\nhigh offices attract.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is demeaning for them to abandon their legitimate defense in order to
\nsmear a high official of the Buhari government, which latter, they
\nprobably consider to be the source of their predicaments.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMere allegations cannot have enough weight to affect the position of such
\na high official as Amaechi, otherwise knowing the disposition of Nigerians
\nfor putting people down, no office holder will be safe in this country.
\nIt is therefore improper and ridiculous to compare the position of the
\nJustices in whose houses millions of naira and hundreds of thousands of
\ndollars were recovered, to that of Amaechi against whom there is only the
\nmere ipse dixit of the Judges.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis sudden anti-Amaechi narrative is consistent with the objectives and
\ninterests of the chief promoters and funders of judicial corruption during
\nelection petitions.\u00a0 These powerful opposition politicians are well
\nknown.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be more specific, they are from Rivers and Akwa-Ibom States.\u00a0 They are
\nthe ones who financed judicial corruptions and brought that great
\ninstitution, the Judiciary, to its knees, after the 2015 elections.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThese allegations are intended to undermine and weaken the Buhari Federal
\nGovernment, by depriving it of the service, input, ideas and productivity
\nof some of its brightest stars.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is intended to set the stage for charging the government with
\nineffectiveness and cluelessness.\u00a0 In other words, it is an attempt to
\nreduce the image and perception of this Federal Government to the low
\nlevel of their own late and unlamented government.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, the call for Amaechi to step down is malicious and vindictive.
