Tukur Buratai, <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_658941346\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Wednesday<\/span><\/span>, said that<br \/>\njudging by the current activities of the Boko Haram terrorists, 60 percent<br \/>\nof them are not Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>Buratai said this in Maiduguri when he received the Special Representative<br \/>\nof the UN Secretary-General, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, at the headquarters<br \/>\nof the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole at the Maimalari<br \/>\nCantonment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour Excellency, I want to bring to your attention that while the Boko<br \/>\nHaram (insurgency) can be said to have started in Nigeria, by and large as<br \/>\nat today, I can say that almost 60 percent of the insurgents are from our<br \/>\nneighbouring countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can see that almost all of the recently surrendered insurgents are<br \/>\nnot Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a challenge that impacts more on the Nigerian side than the other<br \/>\ncountries. But by and large, our military is up to the task and we will<br \/>\ncontinue to do our best to ensure that our country is secured,\u2019\u2019 Buratai<br \/>\nsaid.<br \/>\nHe said that there was no doubt that the terrorists had been defeated but<br \/>\nadded that troops would continue their operations until the insurgents<br \/>\nfinally surrender.<\/p>\n<p>The army chief thanked the UN for identifying with Nigeria in its efforts<br \/>\nto rout out the terrorists and solicited additional support from the world<br \/>\nbody.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking earlier, Dr. Chambas said that his visit was an expression of the<br \/>\nUN\u2019s identification with Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram and<br \/>\nefforts to restore peace to the North-East region.<\/p>\n<p>He restated the UN\u2019s condemnation of the terrorists\u2019 group, adding \u201cwe are<br \/>\nbehind the Federal Government\u2019\u2019 in its efforts to defeat the terrorists.<br \/>\nChambas noted that the immediate consequence of the insurgency was the<br \/>\n\u201chuge humanitarian crisis\u2019\u2019 in the North-East and assured him that the UN<br \/>\nhad stepped up efforts to address it.<\/p>\n<p>He called on the international community and donor agencies to come to the<br \/>\naid of Nigeria in addressing the crisis.<br \/>\nHe said that Nigeria had always been involved in the UN peacekeeping<br \/>\nmissions across the world.<\/p>\n<p>The UN representative used the occasion to commiserate with the Federal<br \/>\nGovernment, the Nigerian Army and families of late Lt. Col.
