The two children, Ukamaka Ikema and Chimuanya Nwarie,had unknowingly ran
\ninto the governor \u00a0 who was inspecting the Akanu Ibiam round about flyover
\nalong the Transhara Ex[presway in the city. .
\nUkamaka,\u00a0 aged 10 is a primary 3 pupil of Ezikwo Primary School\u00a0\u00a0 while
\nChimuanya, who is 12, \u00a0 is\u00a0 a JS I student of Evangel Nursery,Primary
\nand Secondary school\u00a0 in the state capital.<\/p>\n
Governor Umahi,\u00a0 who was in company\u00a0 with his deputy, Kelechi Igwe and
\nsome members of the state Executive Council,had on noticing\u00a0 that\u00a0 his
\nsecurity aides frightened\u00a0 the children directed his orderly to bring them
\nto him.<\/p>\n
After interacting with Ukamaka, who was hawking satchet water, the
\ngovernor asked his ADC to deploy a patrol vehicle to go and \u00a0 pick up the
\nparents of the teenagers from their homes.The children had told the
\ngovernor that they\u00a0 had closed from school\u00a0 before hitting the streets to
\nhawk.
\nA statement on Wednesday by the Governor’s\u00a0 Chief Press Secretary, Emma
\nAnya, explained that\u00a0 at the Government House,Engr. Umahi interacted\u00a0 with
\nthe mothers of the two children,warning them\u00a0 against sending their wards
\nto hawk. After hearing the plight of the\u00a0 children’s parents, he approved
\nN500,000\u00a0 for\u00a0 each of them \u00a0 for the upkeep and tuition\u00a0 of the two
\nchildren\u00a0 .<\/p>\n
Umahi told the parents\u00a0 to\u00a0 deposit\u00a0 N200, 000 each\u00a0 in\u00a0 their\u00a0 banks and
\nuse the balance of N300,000 each to start small scale business. The women
\nwho were over-joyed also had another package:They were both offered
\ntemporary appointments by the governor.<\/p>\n
Before they left the Government House, accounts were opened for the two
\nchildren by officials of Zenith Bank.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 mothers of the two beneficiaries,Mrs Blessing Nwarie and and Mrs Ada
\nNwota,both natives of Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area could not
\nhide their\u00a0 \u00a0 joy as they\u00a0 praised\u00a0 and thanked the governor\u00a0 for his kind
\ngesture.They said they\u00a0 were convinced that Governor Umahi was sent by God
\nto uplift the downtrodden in the state.
\n“I pray the\u00a0 Almighty God to continue to shower his blessings and wisdom
\nupon our amiable\u00a0 governor and family”, Mrs Nwarie said.<\/p>\n
Ukamaka\u00a0 and \u00a0 Nwarie,in their separate remarks,thanked\u00a0 \u00a0 Umahi and
\npromised to be good children.<\/p>\n
