The Ekiti State House of Assembly has again invited a former governor of
\nthe state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, over the controversial N850 million State
\nUniversal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) funds.<\/p>\n
The House also adopted the state Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF)
\n2017 \u2013 2019 document as its document at plenary on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Leader of the House, Olatunji Akinyele, noted that \u201cSome time ago, the
\nformer governor was invited to this honourable House to come and explain
\nhow N850 million State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) fund
\ndisappeared when he was the governor of the state. But it is unfortunate
\nthat he failed to appear before this House.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe former governor decided to ignore the invitation of this House. This
\nHouse is saddled with the responsibility to investigate any financial
\nmismanagement of this state; he should give us room to exercise our
\nduties. He must obey the rule of law, if truly the Federal Government,
\nwhich he is working for as Solid Mineral Minister, is claiming to be
\nfighting corruption. He should live by example,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Other members of the House, including the chairman, House Committee on
\nInformation, Honourable (Dr) Samuel Babajide; chairman, committee on
\nFinance and Appropriation, Samuel Jeje, among others were in agreement
\nthat, \u201cThe corruption they are fighting must be holistic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis House is empowered to investigate any act of mismanagement of
\ngovernment fund. Ekiti State is known as a fountain of knowledge and this
\nissue we are talking about has to do with education.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been unable to rehabilitate the schools, due to the fact that we
\ncannot account for the money collected by the administration of the formal
\ngovernor. Our schools are suffering in the state; no enough
\ninfrastructural facilities and this money is meant to provide basic needs
\nfor the schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cFayemi should be honourable enough to come and explain how the said money
\nwas spent. His failure to appear before this House has affected the
\nlegislative work of this House.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis House passed the resolution to re-invite him again to appear before
\nit and explain his roles on the money meant for SUBEB on the 16th
