President Mohammadu Buhari has told Nigerians to stop making expensive
\ndemands from his administration, insisting that things would not longer be
\ndone the “old way”.<\/p>\n
The President spoke during a meeting he had with a group of Nigerians in
\nthe Diaspora, on the margins of the 3rd Dakar International Forum on Peace
\nand Security in Africa in Dakar, Senegal.<\/p>\n
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and
\nPublicity, Garba Shehu, the President said his administration was on the
\nright track to improve the image of the country by entrenching
\naccountability and probity in governance.<\/p>\n
He told the 11-man Nigerian delegation of association leaders resident in
\nSenegal and Cote D\u2019 Ivoire, that the last 16 years of poor handling of the
\nnation\u2019s resources and infrastructure have continued to impact negatively
\non the country.<\/p>\n
The President, \u201cThis administration is pleased we won the election, we are
\npleased Nigerians are cooperating with us. But the problems are so
\nenormous that we need the cooperation of Nigerians, particularly the
\nelite.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey (elite) should reflect on the condition of the country, and stop
\nmaking expensive demands because things cannot be done the old way.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the welfare of Nigerians in the Diaspora, Buhari assured them that the
\nFederal Government would continue to promote good neighbourliness and
\nimprove the negative perception about Nigerians abroad.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigerians are known for their competitiveness and I am very passionate
\nabout Nigeria. I will continue to preach good neighbourliness and work
\nhard to improve the numerous human and material resources in the country,\u201d
