{"id":54853,"date":"2016-12-06T20:46:41","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T19:46:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=54853"},"modified":"2016-12-06T20:46:41","modified_gmt":"2016-12-06T19:46:41","slug":"like-sharia-court-christian-court-coming-nigeria-bill-passes-second-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/like-sharia-court-christian-court-coming-nigeria-bill-passes-second-reading\/","title":{"rendered":"Like Sharia Court, Christian Court Coming To Nigeria As Bill Passes For Second Reading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>OrderPaperToday<\/strong> \u2013 The prospect of having a court to adjudicate on matters<br \/>\nof Christian jurisprudence gained ground as the House of Representatives<br \/>\npassed for second reading, a bill to provide for the establishment of the<br \/>\nEcclesiastical Court of Appeal in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The bill sponsored by Mr. Gyang Dung (PDP, Plateau) and eight others,<br \/>\nsailed through <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_487437644\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Tuesday<\/span><\/span> at plenary.<\/p>\n<p>It is a constitutional amendment bill which Speaker Yakubu Dogara swiftly<br \/>\nreferred to the Special ad hoc Committee on the Review of the 1999<br \/>\nConstitution.<\/p>\n<p>In his lead debate, Mr. Dung argued that the Ecclesiastical courts when<br \/>\nestablished would focus on matters relating to the tenets of the Christian<br \/>\nfaith and would serve as complement to the regular courts.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that submission to its jurisdiction of the court would be<br \/>\nvoluntary and that the proposed court shall exercise such appellate and<br \/>\nsupervisory jurisdiction in civil proceedings involving questions of<br \/>\nEcclesiastical law and Christian personal law.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the bill would widen the scope of jurisprudence,<br \/>\nadjudication and legal practice in our nation.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cIt will bring to reality the administration of Ecclesiastical<br \/>\nChristian tenets and law in adjudicating matters of personal Christian law<br \/>\nand civil matters.
