\u25aaGOVERNOR WIKE COMMENDS THE COURAGE OF RIVERS PEOPLE IN THE FACE OF STATE TERROR<\/p>\n
The Independent National Electoral Commission , INEC, has \u00a0declared \u00a0the PDP winner of the Rivers East Senatorial District \u00a0and Rivers West Senatorial District in the rerun elections conducted on December 10; 2016.<\/p>\n
Declaring \u00a0the result for Rivers East Senatorial District , Returning Officer , Prof Onu Ekumankama announced that PDP’s Senator George Sekibo polled 98, 098 votes to defeat Mr Andrew Uchendu \u00a0of \u00a0the \u00a0APC \u00a0who polled 34, 193 votes.<\/p>\n
For Rivers West Senatorial District , Returning Officer\u00a0for the District , Prof Raphael Ndubuisi Echebiri declared that PDP\u2019S \u00a0Osinakachukwu Ideozu polled 107, 166 votes to defeat APC’S \u00a0Otelemaba Amachree who scored 46, 898 votes.<\/p>\n
The declaration \u00a0of \u00a0the two results \u00a0won by \u00a0the \u00a0PDP \u00a0led to widespread \u00a0celebration \u00a0by Rivers residents \u00a0across the state.<\/p>\n
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike \u00a0led thousands of Rivers people \u00a0on a victory March \u00a0across \u00a0the streets of Port Harcourt , which terminated\u00a0at the Government House , Port Harcourt .<\/p>\n
Addressing \u00a0Rivers people \u00a0at the Government House on Monday , Governor Wike commended Rivers people \u00a0for standing up in defence of democracy \u00a0and the interest of \u00a0Rivers State .\u00a0\u00a0He praised \u00a0Rivers people \u00a0for their courage \u00a0in the face of\u00a0 murderous invading security agencies who killed, maimed and stole ballot boxes in their bid to subvert the will \u00a0of \u00a0the people .<\/p>\n
Governor Wike \u00a0said that the ultimate sacrifice \u00a0made by the Rivers people brutally\u00a0murdered by the Nigerian Army and SARS personnel was for the \u00a0defence \u00a0of \u00a0the collective interest of the state, because \u00a0they refused \u00a0to \u00a0be conquered \u00a0by the invaders .<\/p>\n
He said : “What has happened today will not happen \u00a0in 2019. Now they have told us , they will \u00a0see that we will also be prepared . \u00a0This will \u00a0not happen again .\u00a0\u00a0“I have told the security agencies, you come and collect security money \u00a0from me and use it against Rivers\u00a0people .<\/p>\n
Enough is enough. They will now be depending \u00a0on NDDC for their funding . \u00a0Let me see where it will \u00a0take them to”.\u00a0The \u00a0governor added: “Rivers people \u00a0must work as brothers and sisters and defend our interests. We don’t have Police, we don\u2019t have\u00a0army, but we have God. And so, we must put our house in order and be our own police , be our own Army .\u00a0\u00a0“We have no confidence in the Army , we have no confidence \u00a0in the police , we have no confidence \u00a0in the SSS. They have \u00a0shown that there \u00a0is no democracy \u00a0in Nigeria .<\/p>\n
”\u00a0The \u00a0governor added \u00a0that politicians \u00a0like the \u00a0Minister of Transportation who are not on ground will never win elections \u00a0in Rivers State .\u00a0\u00a0He noted that those who attempted to re-colonise Rivers State by donating monies from their state governments have been \u00a0shamed by the vigilance \u00a0of the people .<\/p>\n
He said: “Wherever they are, shame unto them. Whether they are in Abuja, Plateau , Bauchi, Benue or Kano, shame unto them. Shame to the Governor of Plateau , Shame to the Governor of Bauchi , Shame to the Governor of Benue. They should bury their heads in shame.”\u00a0Also speaking, Former Rivers State Governor , Sir Celestine Omehia, Former Minister of Transport , Dr Abiye Sekibo , Deputy Governor Ipalibo Harry Banigo and PDP Chieftain , Chief Sergeant Awuse declared that Rivers State will \u00a0never be a conquered \u00a0territory .<\/p>\n
